I am very sad at the events of the last 2 days reported from Haliburton Forest. See the information in the online release:

http://haliburtonforest.com/blog/item/52

Evidence was found that the alpha male was shot dead and taken away by somebody. He will be missed greatly, and I can only hope that the alpha female and the other two Lonestar and Logan will be found.

This is so sad :( Hoping for a safe return of the still missing wolves.

This is one place that I've wanted to go visit but have not yet had the opportunity to do so.

This is very sad news that someone would release and kill these animals. Likely end up as a trophy or fur somewhere.

Haida the black alpha male will surely be missed. RIP Haida. He was such a lovely wolf. I do hope they manage to get the other 3 back inside the enclosure. The news earlier today said the mother (alpha female) and 2 pups (Logan & Lonestar) did come back to the enclosure at least. Lets hope they get them safely back inside very soon.

Looks like there will not be any pups for a few more years.

Hopefully those responsible for this also are caught and dealt with too.

I have enjoyed my visits and seeing the wolves, and also photographing them on several occasions.

I just read this and could not believe it. I have been there a few times and it is an awesome place. I cannot believe how mean, stupid and senseless some people are!

Wow, that's so sad and frustrating at the same time. I hope they catch the perps!

Hi all..... There have been several updates. It has been confirmed that Haida is indeed alive, and it was actually Luna that was killed... Luna is a 1.5 yr old juvenile.

However the sad news is that Granite was found last week, she was the alpha female. They performed emergency proceedure to save her, but she sucumbed to her wounds overnight.

Haida and Lonestar have been hanging out daily next to the wolf centre....often seen hourly, and the staff have ramped up efforts to trap them between the two fences. Hopefully they will be caught soon, and reunited with the rest of the pack.

There are updates on the Haliburton Forest website that go into further detail.

There was an update on Feb 14th stating that Haida and Lonestar are still roaming freely around the wolf centre.
They're finding ways to survive so that seems to be good.

I hope they get them soon, don't want those ones killed too.

They need Haida and Lonestar back....they are the ONLY males from the pack.
