Anyone know of some cool site/blog that's talking about new/old great photographers with their works displayed? Preferably non-wedding :D

Not news to you from me but someone else may find these interesting:

http://davidduchemin.com/
& David's publishing company has a more of his work and other good photographers: http://craftandvision.com/ He's trying to start his own Kelby network or some such.

http://zackarias.com/

Edit: really hoping not to see Kelby, Ratcliffe or McNally as suggestions. Not that they're bad...well, two of them aren't bad photographers anyway.

Yeah, I'd prefer

1. Blog/magazine style coverage. Not photographer's website promoting themselves
2. Something really outstanding in terms of style and content - people breaking the boundaries

:)

I think it's because they doesn't exist as you want them. Most photographers are too self involved and talk mostly about themselves. And that's ok. And I dunno what you mean by breaking boundaries. To me, that's mostly mythical and what isn't a fantasy and is breaking boundaries is hardly accessible. I'm sure there must be exceptions but that list is incredibly short. I think you're looking for something really specific you have in your head.

I don't see how du Chemin's site Craft and Vision doesn't fill most of your requirements. He just released an emagazine that is full of photographers talking about and displaying their work, including David. Nope, it's not a "blog" and it does cost money but it's a large layout magazine with huge pictures and no ads. Plus there's the regular series of Craft and Vision books, including this free PDF one as a taster. Craft and Vision regularly features new photographers, one of Dave's missions with the new magazine is to introduce photographers people haven't heard of. There is also talk about the older photographers and methods. The works is displayed large and talked about mostly in an artistic composition way - the whys with a little bit of hows.

I'm always inspired by old editions of the National Geographic magazine. You can still find them online.

thanks, but it's not what I am after. Looking for more staged shoots with concept behind and unconventional approach, rather than ordinary shoot a scene and adjust the look

Like this example of cityscapes

Dang, you're right, I think I'm going to retire from urbex as I've been truly inspired:

Edit: Updated to a URL instead of in-line image for the benefit of anyone who's got a uber conservative workplace. Above is semi-nsfw.

NSFW! NSFW! NSFW! NSFW! NSFW! NSFW!

Not that I would get fired or anything, but I would be teased non-stop for years to come.

How is it different from regular blood in its effect on the photo?

Really if you have to ask then there is no difference between using blood and photoshop.
