What: Toronto Islands Winter Photowalk

Where: Toronto Island Ferry Docks
Bring: Camera, fast lens, warm clothing, tri-pod

It's that time of year again, and since no one else has yet to post an event I thought I would as these have become on of my favorite events in the winter.
Hopefully there is some snow!
The Plan: We'll be taking the 1:30 Ferry to Wards island so let's meet for 1:15pm and get Everyone on the boat. I'd like to wander through the "Village" and along the top side of the island over to the pier, hopefully catch some good shots out there and then head towards Olympic for Sundown. Bring your fire materials, as it usually is quite cool in the last stretch between setting up and waiting for the long exposures. Also bring some marshmallows if you are so inclined, this usually provides a touch of fun.
Sunset is going to be almost perpendicular to the city so I am hoping that we can get some good shots out of it. Time for the sunset is 4:57 pm.


I will update the weather outlook as it is made available to keep everyone in the loop.

How Rude: I forgot to include that if the time is right when we trickle back to mainland, I'll be heading out for food somewhere nearby, that will be determined shortly. So come on out for a warm up/drink if you are so inclined!


Directions
The Toronto Ferry Docks is located at the foot of Bay Street and Queens Quay, just West of the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel.

Directions by TTC: From union station take the 509 Harbourfront or the 510 Spadina streetcar south to the Bay and Queen's Quay Stop. Alternately, take the Bay Bus #6 southbound from the corner of Front and Bay to the Bay and Queen's Quay stop. The entrance to the ferry docks is on the south side of the street, just east of the Westin Harbour Castle hotel.

Walk / Drive: Main entrance at foot of Bay St on Queens Quay. Enter through park and enter via walkway between Harbour Castle Westin Hotel and Harbour Castle condominiums. Parking is available 1 block north at Lakeshore and Bay, 1 block west on Queens Quay between Bay and York Sts, 1 block east opposite Toronto Star building adjacent to Captain Johns restaurant.

Are you interested in Saturday?
Because if I don't host another run, someone else might and Saturday could be a good choice.
If no one beats me to it though I'd look for a few weeks later, likely the 28th for round two.

Either way Im in. Been a while since I was on the Islands.

dress warmly .. she's chilly out there. I'll be winter camping that day.

Will have to see how the family obligations pan out, so I may still make it. It's an annual favourite with the fire at the end.

I'm in! I haven't been over in winter so looking forward to it.

I will also be out of town that day.

If for nothing other than this picture, it's on!

So this event is on right and the one on Feb 4 is another event. Since we are going to be at Sagna's for the evening prior I will probably get a hotel with a nice view instead of travelling back and forth to Ajax. So that might offer some another photo op.

This is indeed still a go.
Bring your warm gear, it's shaping up to be a chilly one!

And yes the February 4th is a completely separate event.

Actually its calling for fairly nice temperatures - high of plus 1 and a low of minus 3.

I may actually be a no show - depends on when my family is getting together for my sister's bday.

But I am definitely in for the second round over to the island in February.

This turn in the weather, while making things much more pleasurable for lengths outdoors, is making me not want to trek out to the islands.
I will update my status on this trip by noon tomorrow.
I was hoping for at least a trace of snow, or some impending snowy conditions, but the 6 degree high today and partly cloudy predictions for the next week or so make me sad.

How about a trek up the Trump tower instead?

That quite possibly might be a worth idea.

Screw it. Islands, here we come.

I'm going to have to bail. I have some serious jet lag. I can't sleep. Looking forward to February.

I'm in... haven't seen the islands in ages, these days I've been seeing way to many 4 walls (both @ home and @ the office)

It was snowing in Stouffville around 9:30pm as I was driving out from there but there was no snow in Richmond Hill when I drove through .

Hopefully the island get some snow tonight .

Just for your info Alexander, while we were shooting on the terrace of Sapna's I told everyone to look over at the top of the high rise under construction and wave because you were up there taking pics of us.
