Hi Everyone & Happy Holidays,
I just wanted to get an opinion as to what one pays/rate a 2nd shooter for a wedding. I have been hired for a family wedding summer 2012.

as much as the main photographer makes the client pay for it. (usually anywhere from free to 3-5 hundred). Anyone can take wedding photos. Not everyone can take amazing ones!

$400-800.

IT was soooo tempting when there was that Groupon/Teambuy/whatever deal for a wedding photographer for $149. I thought of buying 5. Even as just an assistant that would've been awesome to have someone for 12 hours driving, carrying bags, watching over stuff, fetching food.

I shoot as a partnership with my colleague, and we make equal share of the fee.

Just out of interest, have you shot a wedding professionally?

Actually once I had one free. My girlfriend came with me, and I just told her "shoot where I am not, and don't change the camera settings". I taught her rule of 3rds and focus/recompose, and she got some decent shots. She used her Rebel with my 50mm @ F/1.4.
