What: Guelph/Cambridge Area Historic Mills
When: Tuesday December 27th 2011
Meetup location: Tim Horton's @ Leslie & Lawrence in Toronto
Time: 8:30AM

We will be driving west along the 401 to the Guelph and Cambridge area to visit a number of historical mills in the area. I will be putting together a final list in the next week, but some of the mills to visit on my list include the Blair Sheave Tower, American Standard Mill, St. George Mill, Lens Mill, and more. I will put together a route for us to follow.

So being that this will be a carpooling event -- I will have space in my van for roughly about 5 passengers, and depending on who is coming, there may also be more room with other vehicles. The reason why we are meeting so early is to take advantage of the light of the day, as it gets dark by 4:30-5pm. So I want to try and get out there by 10am and get to as many locations as we can. The majority of the locations are outdoors access only! So please come prepared to shoot in the weather.

If its snowing .... BONUS! If it's raining hard - I will consider rescheduling this outing.

Seats in David's Van:

1. David
2. Maureen
3. Ben
4. Jennifer
5. Bynx - Paul

Can I meet you either at the first mill or a carpool lot on the 401 in Mississauga?

Sure Janet... we can meet you at the carpool lot - I believe there is one at Hurontario.

I can either carpool (meet on 401 corridor between hwy 400 and hwy 10), or drive. Snow would be good.

It'll be a good trip to help me correctly label the mills in my lightroom DB.

Ok, my van is full now..... But we 'll wait to see who else signs up to make a call on whether we need an extra vehicle.

If the roads are good for driving, then I can always drive myself, and thereby give my spot in the van to Simon.

If the roads suck I'll consider driving.

Something has just come up for the evening, so I think I had better drive my own vehicle.

At this point who still needs a ride? My pickups would generally be along the 401 corridor west of Hwy 400.

Ok -- so here is the plan. We are going to meet at St. George Mill first for those who are NOT meeting us at the Toronto meetup location for 8:30am. I believe that it is going to take us approximately an hour to get there. The Saint George mill is located in Saint George, Ontario on Main Street @ High Street. GPS: lat 43.24392, long 80.25241

From here I am hoping that we will visit the following:

Dickson/Turnbull Mill
Ferrie Mill Ruins
Baechler Sawmill
Sheave Tower / Blair Mill
Blackbridge Mill

and if we have time - then head to Allan's Mill near Guelph. There are more on the list too - so we can decide along the way where we want to go.

They are good places .. I've been to most of them. I am unsure on a couple. I've seen so many mills, I don't remember them all. I need to start a journal.

looks like I will be taking 5 with me tomorrow. Chris & Simon - I need you guys to go together, although I could accomodate you if Chris didn't feel like driving - it would just be a very tight van ride! :)

No problem! Thanks guys for coming today, it was fun.... For a moment I thought we were going to be snowed out there. The Darnley Gristmill was a pleasant ending to the trip.

Although I have many shots ruined by water spots, at least I don't take it as a ruined day.

Thanks again for the ride, and everyone else for the company.

Now, to see if I have time to process the one roll of film...

Looking outside my window, it appears this trip was about 24 hours early.

I guess that's an excuse to go out shooting more. :)
