I promise to stop with the questions after Friday.

Do you go beserk and show that your camera has burst mode or not?

I am thinking to go for quality first while getting all the important moments.

What's your take on this?
Can you put a number on how many you would take?
This will be a small wedding, around 60 persons.
I will shoot at home, bride and groom dressing (separately, of course  ), church, outside with the newly weds and the party and reception.

from 2 photogs? or just one?

2, I rarely use more than 50-100 second shooter photos. Mostly candids and detail/macro type shots.

Well...what is the average # of photos usually offered?

a) avg # shots for details (shoes, rings, flowers, etc.)
b) avg # shots for ceremony
c) avg # shots for reception
d) avg # shots for groom/bride preparation

Also, does a package usually come with the engagement shots? If so, what's the avg # of those shots?

I really shouldn't concern myself with these question 'coz I'm not a wedding photographer, but I am curious. :)

I would say, in a full day morning till late night, with two shooters:

20-40 detail
40-60 ceremony
150-300 reception
25-40x2 preparation
60-100 family/bridalparty

Engagement shots, always between 25-50.

Wow. I take it that the goal is to use about 80% - 90% of the shots?

No, I take about 1000 shots, and get about 500 from the second shooter. So thats far from 80-90%. After I pear it down to the numbers avove, its more like 30-50%, with another 20-30% available upon request. Sometimes I'll get people who want like 300 pictures of people dancing on the dancefloor lol.

My standard wedding contract clear states

- Total number of digital images delivered 150+
- Number of retouched images 25

I clearly emphasize the bulk total of images per wedding, including the retouched/edited images (skin, blemishes, etc) usually they are the formal portraits as they tend to enlarge and print those more often.

I deliver about 375 average per wedding anyhow.

The question is very subjective.
There are many professional photographers who take 4000+ photos at each weddings. Then deliver only 400-700.

Then there are those who'd shoot around 600 or so and deliver about 500.

There's an old French saying: "Trop de choix tue le choix" (Too much choice kills the choice)

Aim for quality not quantity.

Photos are meant to be printed, enlarged (some) and framed or an album created.

Cheers,
Dave

FWIW, a friend just sent me the proofs for a wedding she attended in the summer. Pretty standard 1-day wedding.

950+ proofs. A handful of those are the same shot processed twice in different styles, but most of them are unique shots. I can't imagine trying to pick a subset of those for an album. I sure hope anyone providing that many proofs is giving their clients a good tool to tag/select/flag (whatever) their favorite ones.

As Gerardo says, have a contract and state how many pics they can expect from you. As to how many pics to take, thats easy. The exact number is always going to be the number you take +1. Its that +1 shot you always wish you had taken.

Guys, do you want to elaborate on your workflow?
I wonder how do you review 1000+ pictures, with what and how long do you take until you deliver the final product(s).

Thanks.

My workflow is always evolving but here is a quick summary

1 - import into lightroom with keywords base adjustments render standard
2 - do my picks, go through each photo and flag picks
3 - move picks to "picks" folder, move others to "rejected" folder
4 - batch aspect ration to 4x6, adjust WB, crop if needed, exposure etc
4a - move extra rejects, replace with other from rejects folder if needed
5 - export to JPG, upload to gallery, burn to disc, done.

in total that is about 5-8hrs of work depending on the wedding and usually broken down in to 3-4 steps.
