I would like to nominate PotatoEYE for Toronto (far west). This would help appease the western separatists.

I will second... only if he is offering rides to his events on a regular basis.

Thanks, I actually asked people to PM me... and I would think that another criteria would be that they actually reside in the GTA.

Too bad potatoEYE would have made a good addition to the team

Any other criteria we should know about before we make some more nominations?

Aren't you an organizer within the Beaches photo club yet live in Ajax? .....

I think if you look at who creates the ad hoc events now it's pretty obvious who should be a new organizer.

Can you provide a list of people who are currently organizers in TPMG? I cannot see it anywhere on this site.

I say find a type of photography that seems to be popular (landscape, portrait, etc.) but not captured too much in official events and ask someone who does that type and has organized some ad-hoc events in the past.

Ajax is one thing, Vancouver is just silly. Looking at Ad-hoc's is definitely the way to go. Where are they, who is hosting them, etc. Just because you nominate someone and approach them about it, doesn't mean they will actually want to do it.

I like organizing a few events a year. But if I don't feel like it, or don't have time, I don't want to have to. What makes an event "official" anyways. Do official organizers have to meet certain criteria? Do their events have to meet certain criteria?

I guess it's tricky. It would be nice to see some strobist/studio stuff in the official section but those events always need caps. 5, 10, 15 people or whatever. How would new members feel if these events started popping up in the official section and were almost always filled by the same members right away.

Why not just go full on ad-hoc? It's spontaneous, there's no pressure and so far it's been fun. Most ad-hocs I've seen anyway give ample time for preparation and for people to register. The ones who've been doing ad-hoc also have a lot of experience for the event they're hosting so...it works.

At the top of each section such as Official Events you will see Moderators: Organizers. If you click on Organizers it will take you to the list of current organizers.

Or you can click here:

Except that he has NO interest in being an organizer. At least that's what he told me. I guess that means he'd fit in well. Scorch! :D

PotatoEYE sounds like a sensible no nonsense candidate, he's got my vote. How about we should promote him to head organizer? 8)

Why did David lock the original thread? Are we not allowed to discuss what goes on behind the metal or cloth (if you own a Leica) curtain?

I hear you need at least 3 votes from out side the solar system to carry that position and yes it's a free country

Thanks, but no.

David asked earlier this year and I declined and recently I was asked if I would volunteer and again declined. I like doing ad hocs, but am not sure I wish the mantel of Official Organizer. I suspect it is a weighty thing.

I say J__ or Rhommel. They have been regularly organizing ad-hocs that a lot of people have fun, and seem to learn a lot at.

I think David should unlock his original post long enough for him to post just what are the expectations of an Organizer. I have no idea.

Organizers organize "Official" events, but how is an official event different from an ad hoc? They seem to act as moderators on the forums. They seem to be the keepers of the sacred money Pigs.

What are the expectations on the organizers? It was suggested in a previous discussion in January of this year regarding events that organizers are expected to organize one event per month. What guidance do they have on moderating the discussions? Do they have secret meetings where they wear cloaks with hoods?

It is pretty hard to volunteer or nominate for a role that is not really understood. So a little description of the job might help people decide if they wish to take it on.

DG

PS: Yea Metrix for Organizer!

Thanks but no thanks. After the last few years I've come to the conclusion that there is no need for old style organizers. But if we have to have them then they should be selected by the members not in secret by the old guard organizers.

Originally adhoc were more or less "Anyone want to go out and shoot today tomorrow and the day after?" It took quite a bit of time when TPMG changed over to their own web site to even get an adhoc event section. Look at the official events and then at the adhocs over the past year and it should be clear that the adhocs are where the action are. Look again at the official events and count how many events could have been placed in the adhoc section without actually changing anything?

In the past I have set up events both for training, The first ever TPMG Gallery show and to places by like the Elgin theatre. And with a few exception got less then zero help from the "official" organizers. I would put on more events with TPMG but these days I find it less hassle to have them outside of TPMG.

I look at this recent thread http://tpmg.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18818 and after all sorts of good ideas about tpmg and photography all I see that comes out of it is it's a numbers game to get more money to support TPMG. How much money we asked but were never told, what is it a secret?

So is the job of an organizer to make money so we can have a holiday party and support the website? Is it to be the select few the leaders of TPMG?

It's clear that the vocal minority/majority don't want this to be a regular club with elected officials. It's also clear that the majority want more events that are fun and/or that can help them progress along their chosen path in photography. It's clear that having more organizers will be better then having less. But maybe having none would be the best.

I know a few people that would love to put on a social or two but their not official organizers so they can't. Setting up a Xmas party, I don't any organization that ever had a problem. If we need money for raffle prizes so sell tickets no big deal.

To summarize before this turns into more of a rant:

Why do we need official organizers?
Why do we need to differentiate between adhoc and official events?
How much money do we need to run TPMG?
How do we get events that challenge old and bring out new members?
