What: CNE 2011 Night shoot
When: Wednesday August 24th 2011
Time: 5PM
Where: Prince's Gates
Bring: camera, tripod, etc.

The $5 after 5pm deal is still valid again this year... from Mondays to Thursday's with the exception of labour day. So that's wonderful... as we'll meetup shortly after 5pm just inside the Prince's Gates at the CNE, and as usual -- head for the food building, get some dinner, and then shoot twilight as the sun goes down at the CNE. The past few years we have been doing this, and getting some great shots of the rides with motion blur effects. Bring your tripod - we have never had an issue with tripods. Some of the carnies don't like their pictures taken, but that's about it. Otherwise, its fair game.

I've been thinking about this since last year when I was unable to get out any evening!

We've had some incredible skies this summer too, so hopefully that continues!

I look forward to this!

I would LOVE to do this, but I'm not sure what my plans are going ot be on that day - all depends on work and volunteering schedules. I really hope I can make it, though!

I scheduled it on the Wednesday - because I have the medium format thing Tuesday night, and Thursday I am keeping open, Friday I have a wedding to attend, and then off to the trailer after that. Plus one of those other nights I will go to the EX with Shannon.. so either Monday or Wednesday was my only opening.

Boy does time fly. I am back here after 2 years+. The first and only time I met for a TPMG event was in March ( I think ) of 2010. It was on Yonge St at a restaurant north of Balliol ( sp ).

I had the newly released Oly EP2 with the Pany 20mm 1.7.
I would love to attend but this time I have the Panasonic G3 and I will attach the 20mm 1.7 ( a new one ) for this event.
Since I live in Pickering and have not been to the EX in many years, can anyone suggest the best place to park?

Thanks and hope to see you soon

Leo , best place to park at the CNE? They have fields nearby on Lakeshore in front of as well as close to Princess' Gate that I imagine cost an arm and a leg. I always cycle there. Hopefully others will know of better options.

I'll be working late and then have to head home, change clothes, beg forgiveness from my dogs and then cycle there, so I'll head near the Midway rides just as the sun is setting and stake a place out away from the CNE vomit. I imagine I'll bump in to everyone there at some point.

I'll have to cycle in traffic with my camera gear and tripod. But jeez, the Food Building?!?!? Even I won't risk that. David, I admire your sense of adventure. :P

I need both of my arms and legs so I am going to check if the GO Train or GO bus has a stop near the EX.

GO train definitely does have a CNE stop - check the timetable to see how often and when the last one runs.

Thanks Philmar that is good to know. I will go to the GO Station and pick up a schedule.
See you all at the EX ( weather permitting )

no need to go to the station

http://gotransit.com/publicroot/en/Default.aspx

You can even buy the CNE ticket from some of the stations

I am all set. Picked up the train schedule and there is a train that leaves Pickering at 3:58 and arrives at the EX at 4:49.

See you at the EX

Since I don't know and wont be able to recognize any TPMG members do you think it would help if I put a sticky on my shirt with TPMG written on it.

The GO train arrives ( if it is on time ) just a few minutes before 5 PM and looking at the CNE site map it appears that the entrance from the GO station is a long walk to the Princess Gates. However it appears to be very close to the food building so I could meet up there.

Any other suggestions? Maybe others could wear a sticky

We're hard to miss. Picture a whole bunch of nerds with a ton of camera gear. Tripods, etc. A lot of members also have bright orange TPMG tags on their camera bags. If you look around, it won't be hard to spot someone with a tag.

Thanks I had visions of me wandering around looking at people with cameras and wondering if I should approach and ask if they are TPMG members. Or even worse going home without meeting anyone.

I'm looking to schedule another event the week after, especially for those of us gone on the Cape Breton trip. What's a good day for you?

Was at the CNE yesterday - it feels like the setup this year affords less room than previous years to set up tripods for ride motion blur shots. So it will be impossible to miss each other after the sun has gone down.

Food building has a better array of food options than in the past - healtheir options abound. Most culinary traditions are represented so it is possuible to get a Trinny roti, Jamaican oxtail, falafal, Thai red curry, Indian dish and even a Viet pho. But the biggest lineup is still for the Krispy Kreme burger. But $6 for a cob of corn and a coke - really!?!

There is a human cannon ball act that goes down at 7 PM - I tried to catch a shot of him coming out of his cannon barrel but was unsuccesful. He flies out pretty quickly and I didn't have my ancient 30D set for it's massive 5 fps mode. Maybe I won't stand so close to the cannon and zoom further out next time.
His cannon was faster than my Canon.
Also the zipper ride seems to extract a lot of coins/change (and cheap pens) from peoples' pockets. Anyone needing bus fare would do well to swing by it before leaving.

I'm going to have to wait and see if I can go...not only do I work until 6 now, I want to do some shopping at the Ex first before the shooting; so if I do go I'll meet up with you after dark.

As well I intend to go on Thursday anyway to see "Lights" perform at the Bandshell.

Last year it was fisheye photography, this year I'm doing 3D photography with my Fuji W3.

With the weather possibly being lousy I have changed to a maybe. Still teetering closer to the yes side but we shall see as the day goes on.

I'm sticking in the yes column for now.
But I'm teetering on no, based on up-to-the-minute looks out the window.

I'm aspiring to get some dusk shots at this damn fair with sun in the sky and at least partially visible.

We're a long way from 5pm I know, but I don't like what I see out the window right now :(

I am not changing this outing -- Rain or Shine - it is still happening. According to my Weather network app - there is only a 30% chance of rain today.

Well.... I just went outside and its raining here in the west end - not too far from the Ex -- so hoping this will pass over!

Bring an umbrella! I am planning on going down early so I can do some solo exploring before - so I'll meet anyone that is willing to brave the weather at 5pm by the Prince's Gates.

I am not planning to bring my tripod, and just shoot hand held, as I have done the tripod thing every year, so time to try something different.

I just changed to a maybe because of the weather outlook. I was really looking forward to meeting with you all. If the outlook improves in the next 1 1/2 hours I will head for the GO train.

Weather Network says 30% until 9pm when it jumps to 70%. Still pretty good odds because it's just an educated guess on their part.

Nothing a light rain jacket can't handle.

See... whoever shows ...at 5 (maybe this year I'll actually meet up with you).
