Nice rundown, seems pretty accurate to me. I would rank Aden a bit higher, as their prices are consistently lower than any other store in Toronto.

+1. Aden's price list is what i always check, they will almost always be one of the best priced.

Because they don't seem to be interested in staying profitable lol.

I think its still family owned.

^ I've heard they also own one or two stores in Hong Kong (don't think they are under the "Aden" name though)

There is a map at the bottom. Hit the number corresponding to the store and it gives you the address. (Not very intuitive, I know...)

Or if you are reading the individual reviews of the shops and click on the story, the address of each location is given.

+1. i won't even go in there anymore to buy anything. Snobby staff, I think they annoyed with you if you are not a regular and dropping a couple of G's each month. I almost always go to DC first. Same can be said about Film Plus. Heaven's forbid you don't know as much as the rep in that store. *yikes*

I love DV shop, family run shop, great prices, knowledgeable and treat everyone in the store with the same level of respect whether they are repeat customers or newbs. I don't do elsewhere for digital gear now.

I can't believe they didn't include Merkle camera. Which is by far my #1 place to start when I am looking to buy gear.

Weird...I had two different experiences at Henry's from two different stores. Both are of completely opposite spectrums. The one at Kennedy Commons are craptacular. The staff are very snobby indeed. The prices are definitely higher than most. However, the one in Hurontario are exceptionally good and professional. There's a guy there I'm in contact with...can't name names for now. I don't wanna cause issues but, there's a dude there that didn't just give me great advice on my camera, shooting tips and equipment, he knocked out a few bucks off my flash well below the price match they offer and way below what other stores offered. He even knocked it off below what B&H offered including shipping!!

I'm sure he can't do that for all my future purchases and I'm sure I'll shop at other places as well but that branch seem to know what their customers need.

 I think I met you. I came in one time lost and dumbfounded about which Aden store I was at. I think you said, the other Aden I'm looking for is just a few stores north. :?

I have shopped at Aden at Elm since the 80s (actually all the way back to when it was in the little hole-in-the-wall store on Elm). But my main man Frank retired this year and I haven't really been back.

Next time I am in the market for gear maybe I will come by for a chat

Gotta love "best" lists. Everyone disagrees.

Its funny all the complaints about Henry's here is the way I feel about Downtown Camera. Their staff are the French waiters of camera stores. It's like they are doing you a favour to take time out of their busy day to sell you something.

And Vistek is the snob capital for me, but they have gear that no one else has. And they love to try the up sale. I find the folks at the rental department have always been nice and helpful.

I really like the DV Shop and have had great experiences each time I go to that store. I have only been in Film Plus once to get some special film and the person on the counter was very helpful.

And Aden has pretty much always ruled on price. But not always on selection.

DG

I won't set foot in Aden Camera anymore. A few years ago they were selling a used copy of the Voigtlander 15mm ltm-mount lens with viewfinder for $1,000. At the time it could be had brand new for $300 US online (plus shipping etc). Crooks.

Where you the one who bought it? If not, who cares. I've saved thousands at Aden in the past few years. A bad price put on a lens by an uninformed staff member (cough.. eric) doesn't compare to the markups on the majority of items at Henry's and Vistek. The OP's link was spot on; Aden is a store you walk into when you know exactly what you need and exactly how much it's going to cost you.

Obviously not, but I'm an informed buyer. I'm sure they were hoping to scam some uninformed Leicaphile. I'm someone who wants to deal with an upstanding business and not an operation that wantonly rips people off. That's my stance and you're obviously free to shop where ever the hell you want. Happy that you've saved money, but I'd rather deal with a store like DC.

I buy all of my film from Film Plus - they have always been friendly and nice to me. They have the best prices on medium format and 4x5 that I have found so far in Toronto. Aside from buying online.

Cool, I'm pretty sure it was you who helped me with my 7D purchase couple of months ago.

I know Aden always gets a bad rap for costumer service but you seemed nice enough ;)

Getting to know you sales rep before you buy pays dividends. I took a photographic student into Downtown camera and asks them to give her the best price one of those recently release highend Nikon primes. And they did! The price they gave her was considerable cheaper then Aden (forget Henry's) it was even a few dollars cheaper then B&H even when including the filter. I didn't have to ask them to beat or match prices.

It's not about getting the absolute lowest prices, it's about building a business relationship where they know you are serious and will return and you know they won't try to sell you bull.
