What: Presqu'ile Park Warblers and Whimbrels Weekend
When: Sat May 21 2010
Time: 6:30 AM
Where: Lighthouse parking lot inside Presqu'ile park
Bring: Camera, tripod, long lens, close up or macro, park fees

This is the weekend that the "Friends of Presqui'le" do their bird banding program.
Also they will have guide walks around the area and will point out and identify various birds.
Also in the surrounding woods there may be trilliums, trout lillies and other wild flowers.
They usually have a BBQ at the light house later on.
The program runs from 6:30 till 4:00PM.
There are also some beautiful walking trails here.

The park is approx 145km from Toronto. About 1h45min to 2h.

Just looking at the forecast for Presquille ob Saturday, mostly sunny and 21C. So the weather is looking good
Don't forget if you want to come out to the park later in the day and join us that is Ok too.

Hi, I and two friends of mine would love to join! We haven't been on any photo outings with TPMG before though - where do we meet up? Do we just keep checking the Forum for event details?

Hi Lilian

The initial meet up is at 6:30 am inside the park at the lighthouse parking lot. So you have to have a ride there. Once you enter the park you can just follow the signs to the light house and look for people with the Orange TPMG tags on their camera bags. We should be at the lighthouse for a couple of hours before we start to move around. If anyone wants to come later and wants to meet up you can PM me for my number ( send me yours at the same time so I know who is calling) and then call when you get to the park to find out where everyone is. You can bring your friends along, they don't have to sign up. They just can't sit with us at the BBQ

My car is full, but if anyone else is thinking of going and needs company, post here to let people know. Hopefully everyone gets organized before Friday night.

Just a reminder to all. Binoculars are handy for watching the small birds. Don't forget sunscreen and insect repellant. Also park entrance fee which is around $8.00 per car, not per person.

Also there is a link in the first post with info on the park, directions and a map of the park. Drive careful in the park and remember most roads are one way. Simple directions are head east from Toronto, past Oshawa on to Brighton and watch for the signs to Prequille Park. It is about 145 km from Toronto so if you get to Trenton or Belleville turn around and try again
Also is you reach Hamilton or Niagara Falls after leaving Toronto probably best to give up and buy a GPS

A piece of advice for tomorrow. Bring insect repellant. Presqu'ile is tick territory including the black legged tick that may carry Lyme disease.

And for the drivers be aware that the OPP will be out in force this weekend. This afternoon I saw three OPP cars with vehicles pulled over on the 400 between the 401 and the 407. Both marked and unmarked OPP cars.

Thanks to all that came out to enjoy the birds and the great weather. It was nice to meet new people and see some familiar faces. Hope everyone enjoyed their day in the park. There were a lot of birds there this year although not all of them were willing to pose for us

I must say, as long time online lurker (can't really come out and play cos of my little one), I was inspired enough by this thread to actually drive the family out there!

Definitely could not have made the 6:30 am meet up time; by the time we were done with the necessary weekend things to do, we could only make it at about 3+.

Made it to Owen's point, and the lighthouse, and was quite irritated by the insects which cloud over our heads. Should have gotten insect repellant!

I found the pants worked pretty well in Algonquin today. I have the pants with the zippers, cargo pockets and belt loops and they run about $80. They also have basic pull on pants without the extras for about $60.
