So after owning a flickr account for over 4 years, I've noticed a trend in what people like to see. Sex.

While not surprised by this finding, I have also noticed that a few photos in particular are constantly getting hits. I don't tag my photos and usually don't name them, so I am wondering how these are found or why people are always looking at these photos of people urinating in the public. Anyone notice oddities in their stats?

I have no idea but that's hilarious.

Definitely they like the sex. My zombie pics consistently get hits every day, two are well into the thousands, which is a lot of hits for me. They're "sex" I guess. Especially since I titled some of them "sexy" and included tags like that. Daily I get hits from google images for people looking for "sexy zombies" and "zombie nurse." The pics I took at the mentor session that chopper and Tyler held got a fair amount of hits too. Sexy blonde...

What people look at and what flickr decides is interesting is usually different for my stuff. In fact, what flickr decides is interesting in general puzzles me. In both my own stats and in what gets explored. Granted there is some beautiful stuff that gets explored, there's also a pile of narrow depth of field lens exercises and boring poop. I do know that flickr decides some pics are less interesting if you've added them to certain groups. I did a test with the zombies. I added two of them to the 2000+ hits group and the "interestingness" of the photos fell by 3 or 4 positions. Removed the pics from those groups and the interesting rebounded. Allegedly there are several groups that will have an effect like that.

Not really unless you count this one at over 12,100 hits purposely titled Large Nipples to bring in the crowds

What's more interesting than people viewing it is why you're taking those pics, not that there is anything wrong with that.

@Chris: how do you check the interestingness level of a photo?

@Ryan: that's hilarious but your photos generally generate a lot of interest and hits.

@V: People will go ANYWHERE and everywhere in Vietnam (where those photos were taken). I just so happened to be photographing something in the vicinity of them doing their business and decided to start documenting it.

The most obscure place i've seen to date was during rush hour with hundreds of motorbikes zooming by both ways, some dude is peeing on the median separating the traffic flow.

Click the "You" button then there's a submenu that includes a button that says "popular." That will list your photos by interestingness, and the amount of views, comments and favs.

Reference to an old Seinfeld episode young fella.

Camera porn is also a good draw, this is my most popular image at over 6600 views:

My most viewed photo is a model's backside at Importfest at 23,792 views.

I just added one to that.

Based on the laws here in Canada, I'd say thats being looked at alot because it is fundementally wrong, as I'd get a ticket for that if I did that in Toronto.

Flickr isn't limited to Canada. It's more likely there are a lot of people who just like pee pics.

That 'sex sells' on Flickr does not surprise me. After all, porn does seem to be a big part of internet traffic and sales.
What amuses me about Flickr is the number of wannabe fashion photogs who create the impression (in my mind at least) that their camera is their ony route to meet girls/models. It's like the rock'n'roll musician that picked up a guitar not for the love of art and music but as a way to meet girls.

Holy cow! We can do that?

I've often thought that without internet porn, the internet would never have survived its beginnings.

As a simple test a while back I did some random tags and they did make a difference on the number of hits.

Photos tagged with the following seem to have more hits then it really deserved
"xxx"
"sex"
"explorered"

Somehow, this is my most viewed image at 19,300 times. I have no idea how this is possible..



It isn't really tagged... it isn't geotagged. I haven't posted it anywhere of note.
