I have reset the registration of this thread and changed the subject the content of the thread should make the reason for this clear.

I am starting a new thread for the social and shoot.

If you want to edit your post below to count your self out of the project I will take no offence by it, clearly you would have had no knowledge of what subsequent thoughts where going to come from me.

This is the scanner project thread.

this might even be fun with a pre-social film shoot.

I keep wondering what we're going to do about the delayed results:

If there is a shoot, there is some delay before we see the photos.

If we have a meet, will there be a delay before we have any fun?

Squeeze is good for both sexes :) Besides there's always Polaroids for almost instant gratification.

I was thinking (and that is a very dangerous thing to do) about what we might do for a pre social shoot. If I could get at least 5 people with different scanners to participate in this.

Each of us would donate 6 35mm contiguous frames (I assume all scanners can take at least 6 frames in the holder, if one of the scanners takes less then that its number would be the number of frames donated by all).

Each of us would scan their strip and then mail the strip to another participant until all film strips have been scanned by all scanners. The scans would have to be relatively raw, that is 16 bit tif files with the histo's of each colour channel entact and no gamma adjustment or grain reduction.

At least 5 different scanners and hopefully at least 5 different film types. All the tif files would be made available publicly. This would become a unique resourse for helping others.

We could discuss or firm up at the social how the files would be made public.

Just a thought.

All film types would be welcome and some one participating in what I am talking about in my previous post shooting medium format would supply 4 contiuous frames or less.

Also if one does not wish to participate in the above project they would still be welcome to come to the pre social shoot and social.

And of course it would be okay to duplicate scanners and film types.

That sounds like a cool idea. I know that scanning is a weak point for me... although it's hard enough to find time to just get everything scanned in the first place than to want to pore over the details frame by frame.

Anyway...

The third variable would be scanning software.

My combo: Epson V500 with epson's default software on a Mac.

As I was out and about later today, sitting and waiting about 9 minutes at a railway crossing, after about 5 min went by I started counting the rail cars and 4 more min went by with a count of 88 more cars, I had another one of those dangerous thoughts.

Perhaps some people don't want to give out their mailing address, but we can I am sure work out away around that if it is a problem.

You could just have more socials to do the strip swap (and I mean film strips)

The Mrs in her usual wisdom has spoken and we will work out the details of this larger scanner project later and it would probably be better to talk about it in person at the social. I will try and dream up a more well thought out project and present it later, input before hand is welcomed.

I am changing the subject of this thread to scanner project and starting a fresh thread for film shooters social and shoot.

Totally confused  Is this a sign-up for a social for a scanning project or is this a sign-up for a scanning project or a sign-up for something completely different?

Thought that the last line in my post just before yours made that clear but I guess now that I re read it maybe not.

This thread now becomes the scanning project tthread and I started a new pre social, social meetup for film shooters.
