Details:

What: Sunrise at Fifty Point Beach
When: Sat. Feb 12, 2011
Time: 6:00AM
Where: Fifty Point Beach (Stoney Creek)
Bring: Camera, Tripod, Remote Trigger, CP Filter, ND Filter, Good winter hiking boots (snow shoes?) and warm clothes (depending on weather)

Hello All, I will be making a trip over to Fifty Point Beach for some winter photos (been waiting to do this trip all winter). The web says that sunrise is around 7:20am - but twilight light can produce some stunning photos - why the very early start at Fifty Point Beach. When I've had my fill at Fifty Point Beach I'm heading to Decew Falls (specifically Lower Decew).

I have no idea what to expect at this waterfalls in winter (but I want to find out). The trek over to it is definitely a little challenging (and that is in the summer, as you have to follow the stream bed over). In winter I anticipate it will be quite difficult and slow going with all the snow we've had this winter. It took me a good hour to hike in the summer - so please keep this in mind if you plan on joining me for this portion of the trip.

After Decew Falls I'm open to any location to take photos and am fine just driving around looking for cool things. Most likely there will not be any official break period (maybe after Decew Falls) so bring snacks and water with you please. We can hit up some place in Hamilton at the end of the day for dinner for those interested.

Maybe. Some logistics to work out. Although this is at my end of the universe I may not be at my end of the universe that day. Still, wouldn't mind doing Decew. Missed you at the waterfall event Jordan. I thought you'd want your revenge on Hilton Falls. ;)

For me, this will have to depend on the road and weather conditions. It would be convenient for me to combine this with a visit to my father, but if the weather makes me uncomfortable with driving there on Saturday and driving back on Sunday, then I may be looking to carpool if possible.

I'm interested. Definitely need a ride that early in the am. Not sure about the falls with a bad ankle.

The forecast seems to keep changing - when I checked the hourly forecast yesterday evening, it was only showing snow overnight (until 6:00am); now it looks like it will be snowing most of the day tomorrow. Even though I made plans to drive to my Father's tonight after work, I am now having 2nd thoughts about driving for this.

Still unsure of what I'm doing so I have some questions

Is there a contingency plan if there's a dull grey rising instead of sun?
Is there a set time for Decew? Will that be an alternate time if sunrise is cloudy?

Stoney Creek Forecast currently predicting flurries in the morning with a total accumulation through Saturday of 2-3cm.

Actually I do not care about the sunrise - i have found the twilight light much nicer for photos here. So clouds or no clouds it's still a go. As for a meetup at decews - unfortunately I really don't know how long will be at the beach for. It depends on how the light is once the sun comes up - roughly I'll say we'll be done around 9am at the beach.

I know Pam is quite close to me as well. Let us know what your plan would be, I would love to go shoot whatever lies there

Hi Potatoeye,

I will be taking the 401 route - if you can get yourself to Yorkdale Mall (in front of the Chapters bookstore) I will be making a pickup at 5am there.

Cheers,

Jordan

I'll probably drive myself, I could get more people in around Old Mill station on Bloor
