I would love to attend, but based on recent happenings I will have to say maybe for now and will confirm closer to the date.

I appreciate you sharing and organizing and hope I can make it out though!

When it comes to cold weather, there are two rules I know.

1. Put a spare camera battery in your coat, close to your body to keep it warm. Batteries don't like to be cold, and will lose their apparent charge faster than 'normal'. By warming the battery up again, you can squeeze some more juice out of it.

2. Put your camera in a bag before going from outdoors to indoors to avoid your lens fogging up, and other issues. This rule in particular I'm particularly reliable at breaking.

Or anywhere, for that matter... The acids in your breath eat away at lens coatings

I kind of want to go... we shall see!

Compared to last year, looks like there will be a lot less snow with all these recent warmer weather!

Hi everyone. Sunday is getting closer and the weather looks like it will be ok. Minus 3 to minus 5 and a slight windchill.
In order to enjoy your outing don't forget the following.

1: bring money for the ferry. Adult fare is $6.50
2: dress properly. Layers are best so you can adjust from hiking to standing around at sunset
2a: warm socks and good boots
3: charge camera batteries and bring extras as they do not last as long in the cold
4: bring snacks and drinks for the hike
5: bring a remote release and tripod for night shooting
6: laugh at my jokes

The Rectory cafe is open from 11am to 5 pm for those that wish to stop in. There are washrooms near the play ground on Wards and
At the cafe and also at the fire station, other than that plan accordingly.

We will start with a tour of Wards island then move towards the pier and farmville then to Olympic island for sunset and night shooting.
Last year we started back at 7 pm to catch the 8pm ferry and then went to Caseys for some much need hot food.

Any questions can be posted here or pm me. Thanks to those who have helped answer questions already.

Tim

Looking forward to this event. I'm a newbie to the group and look forward to meeting you all. Not having much experience shooting in the cold will two batteries last for the day? I have Nikon D70. Saw the great advise on keeping batteries warm, just not sure how many batteries I would need.

Hi Tracy

Two batteries should be fine. Just charge them both up today and then keep the spare in a pocket close to your body to keep it warm. Just make sure you are warm and comfortable also.

With the rain today, what do you think we'll see weather wise on the Island tomorrow?

I'm pondering whether to attend, or jump ship with lxdesign.

Rain will end tonight. Tomorrow will be -3 dropping to -5 and partly cloudy
a 30 % chance of snow. So it should be nice day.
