It seems we are set for a next weekend trip to the Fingers Lakes. While every place I turn to says that the colors display would be spectacular, I'm straggling to find directions to particularly interesting wide vistas. We will be hiking in the state parks along the waterfalls and gorge edges, but I'm not sure there will be enough open space there for the wider views. Can anybody share the experience?

I use to race at Watkins Glen and there is plenty of spots either on the lake edges or in land where you can get good vistas. Are you sure it's not past peak.

Search flicker and a web cam data base to better locate the areas of interest.

Thank you.
Already came back - it was an active weekend. We mainly visited Fillmore Glen, Letchworth, and Watkins Glen State Parks. All three are beautiful and different. Additionally, we also managed short visits to Buttermilk Falls and Taughannock Falls, South and North of Ithaca respectively. The area is full of running water and nice rolling hills. The fall colors were nice, but not spectacular. I suspect we would be coming to Finger Lakes for some summer camping proper in the future.
It's still a WIP, but some photos already posted to http://www.flickr.com/photos/bright_sid ... 160530554/
