And since it uses H.264 technology, does that mean we have to pay royalties just like we have to do now if we want to use a video shot with an H.264 camera commercially?

As someone who was there when the JPEG image format was unveiled, it would take a LOT of improvement to unseat it. People like their ties to older software, and wouldn't want to have to dump everything just to use a new image format, it has to be a much better image format; I used third party converter software to go to and from JPEG as nothing then was compatible with it.
