Nice seeing everyone today. :D Fortunately for me I had a dry bike ride home. These were the best I could do on a dull day. I am looking forward to seeing other pics.

Indeed! It was like being in one of those National Geographic specials where the butterflies completely carpet the ground and trees. Surreal.

Glad that I made it there to have lunch with y'all and not the 15km walk . It was nice to see you all.

Ashley, thanks for the ride :).

Well, I will apologize for being horribly anti social, but I was there with my dad and my wife. I didn't introduce myself or anything though

If nobody minds, here's a photo of mine that turned out.

Oh, and Alvin, your first picture is a monarch, the second a viceroy and the third an American Goldfinch (we have lots of them at my house).

Thanks Reimar :) Forgive my noobness when it comes to wildlife. I didn't even know that my second picture was not even a monarch, I was wondering why the colors looked slightly different from that of a monarch

A few shots from the day:

I borrowed Chris (Ions) Tokina 11-16 F2.8 for this shot - at 11mm on a 1DmkIV - who knew it would work on a 1.3 crop?

I hope everyone saw plenty of monarchs. Sadly I saw but two. So overjoyed was I at the sight of the second that I pursued it off path in to the brush. So focused was I on my photographic prey that I wasn't paying attention to where I was stepping and I twisted my ankle.
Butterfly 1
Human 0
That pretty much ended my weekend for me! I twisted over on to the ankle and immediately had a baseball-sized welt on it. Off to Emerg - luckily my wife had come in her car and we were able to throw my bike in it.
So? Do I at least have the distinction of being the first TPMG'er to go to Emerg during an event? Nothing broken - just a severe sprain. It's still swollen.
But I've made the best of it - booked off work and have spent my days watching Lightroom 3 instructional videos.
Here's what I shot before I was put out of commission by the butterfly
I did see a rabbit who seemed mildly concerned about my injury
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phil_marion/4921074623/" title="rabbit - Tommy Thompson Park by Phil Marion, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4137/4921074623_9c1b52c2c1.jpg" width="500" height="334" alt="rabbit - Tommy Thompson Park"></a>

As upset as I was about my own predicament I realised things could have been worse. Consider the plight of this suicidal ladybug:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phil_marion/4921074155/" title="suicidal ladybug - Tommy Thompson Park by Phil Marion, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4098/4921074155_8ca72968da.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="suicidal ladybug - Tommy Thompson Park"></a>

yes...down to my last 4 Advils (better anti-inflammatories than Tylenol).

It's weird, I survived the riot squad on horseback during the G20 but not this pesky butterfly. He's probably in Ohio by now.

Finally got a chance to process my pics - no amazing butterfly shots but a few I'm happy with nonetheless:

Stinky Fish (HDR). Not sure why I like this, but I do.
