Since I'm earning from photography now, I'm only interested in legit copies, but of course I'm still being cheap :P

I'm in the same boat (well, not making money off of photography) and was thinking of looking for a cheap Lightroom 1 license and then upgrade to 3. Everywhere else I looked it's $300us. Seems a bit steep but oh well.

Students and teachers only pay $100 for it.

I just had my nephew (university student) order it for me and it arrived on Friday.

Doesn't that mean the student license doesn't apply to you? That would be like someone licensing your photos for the web and then doing magazine spreads with them.

For photography students only, or ALL students?

All students.

If you are a professional photogrqpher (making money from the profession) then you shod pay full retail. If you are a hobbiest then it's better than torrenting the program.
