Details:

What: Toronto Zoo
When: Saturday June 19th 2010
Time: 9AM
Where: meet at the main gate.
Bring: yourself, camera, long lens, comfortable walking shoes.

Now that the weather is a bit better, I thought it would be a good time of the year to go to the zoo and check out some of the outdoor animals that we normally skip visiting. Bring your comfy shoes as we may be walking for a bit... Especially if we decide to go and see the Canadian animal display down the looooong hill!

We'll meet for 9am, at the zoo main gate.

Can't go, I'll be at Ontario Place all day. Union at work gets us in for the day, includes everything but food.

I was already planning on going that day myself (weather co-operating) I may meet up with you guys - but just not sure I can pull myself out of bed THAT early - but I'll definitely be there and will see about meeting up with you guys at some point.

I might come out for this -- it depends on the weather. I'm curious to see the Canadian section of the zoo. I don't think I've been there before.

It's definitely the kind of place you don't want to trek to in the winter. They have grizzly bears, moose, grey wolves, lynx, raccoons, and a few other things down there. Yes - raccoons on display, I always shake my head at that one. Hoping for nice weather.

Point taken, however being there early does have it's advantages. Less people, and the animals are more active in the morning.

Well, there are the aforementioned raccoons... (seriously, that is a bit crazy). Wish I could go- I've been wanting to go ever since I saw Suzi Sue's photo of the elephant....

Another time perhaps...

30% chance of showers on Saturday -- hopefully that will change to a 0% chance by Friday.

I will be there as long as it does not rain. It should be very nice to get out and do some shooting.

If it does rain, not likely to rain for very long, so we should be ok.

So the weather is still calling for rain tomorrow --- I think we'll start with the indoor stuff, and then head outside once it gets nicer. here is what the environment Canada site is saying:

Saturday: Cloudy with sunny periods. 30 percent chance of showers early in the morning. Showers beginning in the morning and ending late in the afternoon. Clearing in the evening. Risk of a thunderstorm in the morning and afternoon. Wind becoming southwest 30 km/h late in the morning then becoming northwest 30 late in the afternoon. High 26.

I am perfectly fine with this plan. And besides, the D700 is weatherproof enough anyways. It will be fine in a bit of rain. It will be more likely that the animals won't be up for the rain rather than us. :P

I also just realized that I have no idea of how long the TTC will take to get there... anyone have any clue how long the bus ride is? I really don't like to be late for things and nor do I like to be incredibly early.

It depends where you are coming from? The main bus usually is the 85A along sheppard Ave. from Don Mills Station I would gather it should take around 45 mins (depending on traffic and number of stops it has to make).

I am in the east end of Toronto so i would be doing the 86A from Kennedy. I was thinking of catching the 8:00 or 8:10 bus. get there with 5-10min to spare as i assume it will take around the 45-50min mark.

It might not take that long, as we are talking Saturday morning. But good to be early I guess.

I briefly tried the green side, but then I checked the weather again and went back to the blue side.

If I do end up going, it will be a little later as my car is in for service first thing.

Ok...... The weather shouldn't be too horrible. It's supposed to storm, but only in the morning.
