I may move back to film for weddings.

Yes, call me insane, but I seem to know what I want and what I get from film (mainly B&W).

While I process my own B&W's I find that the amount of time it takes to do so effectively is excessive.

I'm looking for recommendations for B&W and Colour labs that still do film (hehe.. now the search..) I'm aware that TIW does stuff but, having used them in the past, I'm not that impressed by their quality.

Here's sort of what I'm looking for:
1) The ability to choose the B&W developer (currently my dev of choice is Xtol 1:1 OR Rodinal)

2) Push/pull processing for both colour and B&W

3) the ability to handle both 35mm and 120

3) high res scans after the development process (4000 dpi preferred)

4) reasonable (i.e. within a few days) turnaround time.

I'm not as concerned about price since that can be built into my overall costs.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Dave

A few places in town can do 2-4 - but I'm not aware of anyone who does 1. Please let us know if you find someone though.

elevator only does one shot batch processing using any developer you choose, they can also do high resolution scans. IMHO only place in town to get highest quality B&W.

Excellent suggestion Ryan. Thank you.

That will help a bit.. I'll check them out as they're not that far from me (about 10 minutes)

Cheers,
Dave

Elevator can do both B&W and C-41 but B&W is their speciality. I've done 35mm to 8x10 sheet film with them and the results are the best in the city - bar none. Best to contact them ahead of time to tell them how much and when you need it. They may not be the best place for high res scanning if you need fast turnaround time, but best to ask just to be certain.

Happy to introduce you directly to Kevin or Bob (the owners - I know them both very well) for bulk pricing if you like. PM me.

Thanks Ken.

I'll definitely consider it - I need to figure out pricing to accommodate into my own pricing and I see they do bulk runs (6 rolls per run) and, if I want to use Xtol, I've got to supply the Dev. Not necessarily a big deal but I'd rather not have to do that but we'll see :)

Cheers,
Dave

I used to use them years ago.
Haven't been back since 2003 but it's one of the oldest (if not the oldest) processing houses around.

They were "ok" with their processing but nothing spectacular imho.

CHeers,
Dave

Hmm.. never used Pyro before - and I WOULD like to retain Tri-X as my main film for most situations (granted, I would opt for Delta3200@1600 or Tmax3200@1600 @ the reception if lighting permits).

I'll have to look at this closer - Ken, Ryan, and all, thanks for suggesting :)

Cheers,
Dave
