So I finally did it... my first real photo book. I did a sampler last year, but didn't like the result. I attended a workshop with blurb last week here in Toronto, and that was my inspiration for getting this done. Take a look at the preview:

Nice David. How was the blurb presentation by Caponigro? Never had the day off approved so I never made it.

I recognize a page from a TPMG event. Love the self portrait there, or is it?

Thanks.... the presentation was good, they talked about the history of photography books in general, talked about colour management, and then went into some features of what makes a good photobook -- oh ya, all of which is available on his website! It was a bit of a sell ... but I expected that being that it was hosted and presented by Blurb.

Anyhow ... yes that is a self-portrait, shot with tripod and self-timer at O'Hara Mills in the carriage shed. I am going to be putting together a second collection probably sometime in August/September in time for the next SPOOM get-together (SPOOM is the Society for the preservation of old mills).

I am hoping that at some point I am going to meet someone interested in hosting an exhibition of my work - maybe even at a mill!

David

I have to say that it looks great and really like the layout and presentation! I hope all goes well and must be neat to see your photos in print like that! Best of luck and congratulations!

that would be awesome.... and maybe even a free trip to Chicago! But I doubt that would ever happen.

Good looking book, I wish you success with it.

I assume you had it done with premium paper. If it was gloss does does handling the pages leave finger prints? I got really pee'd off once when this happened with an interior design book I bought.
Actually I guess the first question is redundent, because you would have warned us if it was a problem, but I will let the question stand as it may be a concern with other on demand printers.
If it was matte, why did you choose matte over gloss?

Thank you. Didn't like the dust jacket printing. I am goi g to be redesigning into a much larger collection. 24 pages isn't enough, and I am also going to be downsizing it to an 8x10 size book. Trial and error I guess. Glad I only printed one copy.
