I know this is a long shot but Im trying to edit some stuff for a Toronto fire shoot and my skin tones keep coming wayyyy off and its starting to irritate me a bit.. I was wondering if in the mean time ( while I get money for my own) I was wondering if it would be possible to meet up with someone for 20 minutes and just use yours on my monitor (macbook pro) I have no idea how they work nor if its possible to use with other computers but if so I hugely appreciate it! A 6 pack is in it for you :D

I think you need to calibrate the monitor in the same lighting you are doing your edits in or your settings may be skewed.

Ambient light will effect the brightness of the output.. if you are having a colour cast, then it will be greater effected by the actual colour reproduction on the monitor.

That said, if you are doing all your editing in bad florescent light that has a green or blue tinge to it, then that will effect what you see on screen. Best it edit with muted sunlight as that will give you true colours.

Pitty you didn't go to the Henrys photo show.. they had the Spyder3pro on for $140. better pricing than B&H even with the tax. I picked mine up and it did wonders for the NEC monitor, but my Dell was pretty much bang on, and needed no change at all.

I find that mine if pretty well perfect now where ever I use it and I use a Pantone Huey Pro. What matt said about working under really harsh light though is absolutely true and I never recommend it but only if the light is directly on the screen do i ever even notice it. You can borrow mine once I get the software back from a colleague if you like.

Just a thought:

A calibrated monitor ( and depending which brand etc) may display overly saturated, reddish or contrasty images while using web browsers or explorer (such as IE, firefox, chrome, safari, etc); but proper tones in color managed software (such as photoshop, lightroom, etc)

search for your monitor calibration issues on forums on the internet, most times you'll find out which settings works best while calibrating (gamma, white balance (K) etc)

hope that helps

Once you enable colour management for Firefox it becomes same as any other colour managed application. I don't think IE still has one available
