Details:

What: Doors Open Hamilton
When: Sat. May 1
Time: 10AM
Where: Dundurn Historic Site, in front of the gift shop
located at 610 York Boulevard, Hamilton (at Dundurn Street)
Bring: camera, good walking shoes

Just wondering if there is any interest in attending Doors Open in Hamilton this weekend. I could go either day, but if we decide on Sat., I may have to cut out early as I have plans that night in TO.

It looks like there are a few interesting buildings open to the public; I'm most interested in seeing Dundurn Castle, and some of the buildings at McMaster.

You can check out the website: http://www.doorsopenhamilton.ca/

Let me know if you'd be interested in going!

***details above updated****

anyone ever been to it before? It doesn't look that much interesting on the website, wonder if it's as interesting as Toronto's?

I went to it two years ago, and I thought there were some neat spots. We didn't get into Dundurn Castle though, which is why I want to go back. But if what is shown on the website doesn't look that great to you, maybe give it a pass. I have to admit that Toronto's Doors Open doesn't appeal to me much anymore with all the crowds....

Sue, could you tell us how crowded Doors Open Hamilton was when you went?

Thanks!

Oh boy! I have to think back to two years ago and separate Hamilton from all the other Doors Open events I attended that year???? Yikes!

From what I remember, Dundurn Castle had a long lineup, but that was late in the afternoon when we got there. I don't remember any other lineups, but there were definitely people around when we were at various locations. Not crowded, but not empty.

I couldn't possibly predict how crowded it will be this year; Doors Open has gained a lot of publicity and popularity over the last couple of years. Toronto's Doors Open was not very crowded three years ago, not too horrible two years ago, and then last year there were hour-long lineups in many locations.

I'd have to agree ... at one time Toronto's Doors Open was a good event, but now its over saturated with crowds everywhere you go.

So it looks like more people are interested in attending on Saturday than Sunday (sorry, ions!) I will take a look at where the best meeting spot is, see if there's anything that is only open to noon that I really want to see, and then update this later this afternoon with all the details of where to meet, what I'm planning to see, etc.

OK, I've updated the first post to indicate that we're meeting on Sat. morning at 10am at Dundurn Historical Site. We can meet outside the gift shop, (as it's a separate building from what I recall) and then head in there right away.

Other places I'd be interested in seeing are:

Ancaster Old Township Hall
Valley City Manufacturing
Christ Church's Cathedral
Church of the Ascension
St. Nicholas' Serbian Orthodox Church

and at McMaster:
Planetarium**
Convocation Hall
McMaster Nuclear Reactor**
Hamilton Hall
Engineering Technology Building

** may not be able to take photos here, but would still be interesting, imho.

If there are other places you guys want to see, please let me know!
