It is one of the standard lens mounts for film and TV use, primarily 16mm and 35mm motion picture film cameras, but also digital cinema cameras.

Converting the 5d to it is attractive so you can use lenses that have proper gears for follow focus systems, as well as a "matched" set of primes. Companies like Zeiss and Cooke make sets of prime lenses that have very close contrast and colour characteristics so they will cut together well within the same scene.

I wonder how many lenses will actually have the coverage for the 5d sensor; most PL mount lenses are designed to cover 35mm motion picture film, which is only slightly larger than the size of an APS-C sensor.

To put it in perspective, Vistek charges $75 per day to rent a modern 300mm 2.8 prime lens, which is a $4-5k lens

For top of the line Zeiss Master Primes, CSC (a New York rental house) charges $300, per lens, per day.

Hah! I just found a set of eight used Zeiss Master Primes for sale, for the low low price of $215 000. If you can afford those I don't think you need to outfit a ghetto 5dmkII with a PL mount to use them.

I'm just waiting for the ultimatum "it's me or the camera equipment" and then just for fun, see what happens if I say "camera equipment"...

Seeing all those pics I can only assume that person does not have pets. Those parts and screws would be gone long before you get half way through the mods.
