That was truly disturbing. Fighting for peace is such a ridiculous oxymoron.

Having just returned from a trip to NYC where I was when this story broke I can't express how happy I am to be back here in your country. The level of ignorance, intolerance and rancour that I experienced from elements of their citizenry is disgusting. Many people there felt NO compassion for the reporters, expressing the viewpoint that anyone that interviews 'terrorists' deserves to be caught in the crosshairs. Most people were incredulous when I mentioned that they were interviewing members' of a Shia militia, NOT a terrorist gang. When I followed what passes for news on US TV channels I then realised why most people there seem ignorant of what is going on. The general attitude of some (not a majority) was similar to the one I encountered on this board before I left. Some still feel that dropping a few nuclear devices on the region is a reasoned response. I am glad to see that opinion is NOT shared by anyone else on this board. This board has reaffirmed my faith in North America!!

Did you watch Fox News, or what pass for news?

Or, as we refer to it on American political boards, "Faux News."

Well I'm glad this discussion did not turn into a hate fest. The one thing I take from this story is the need to turn the light on unfortunately situations like this. I think discussing the underlining problem is the first steps to changing the behavior which allows such tragedies to be covered up. I'm sure we can all agree that the response our political players want is one of apathy (definitely won't bet getting that from me).

These idiots murdered 10s of thousands of innocent people and keep doing it every day. The only reason we got this is because 2 reporters were killed.
Usually it's never reported because those are "war casualties and shit happens"
Every day I lose faith in the army and any respect I had for soldiers. Mostly the US soldiers as seems like this country just comes in and starts shooting wherever they want to. When they'll finish with Iraq and Afghanistan, North Korea and Iran will probably be the next target.
Many will disagree with me.
Going in some other country is not defending anything.
A while back I met with a guy whose whole village was wiped out by the US troops when they were searching for Osama. They'd find a village where he could be hiding and wipe the whole place out with bombs. Then go to the next one. I bet it's not in the news...

I watched the local CBS, ABC type networks. But my ire was more intended for the Murdoch propaganda organ Fox.
