Hello all,

My apologies for asking this, as I couldn't find any recent threads on camera straps.

I've never found a camera strap that I have loved, liked yes. Seems like eternity to find the perfect match.

Looking for a neck strap, I've tried those non neck straps like the rapid strap, and some other ones like the Optech ones.

Quick release would be nice but not necessary. Anyone come across ones that they really highly recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Foggy

I generally use hand straps or a Rapid Strap. However, when I do use a neck strap, I go with either Domke or Think Tank. Both are slim, soft and have gripping rubber for security. In the following pics, you can see my Canon-branded Domkes (click on pics for access to larger images):

I use a Kata Reflex E strap that I picked up from Vistek. Super comfy compared to the Nikon strap it was replacing. It also has a cool clipping feature to attach to the shoulder straps of camera bags (if you have clips on them). Plus its pretty cheap.

Thanks for the link.

Yep currently I use the Rapid strap with a RRS 5D2 L Bracket (using that open loop as a backup incase that thing breaks off!) and the optech pro loop system. Still searching for a neck strap, the optech is not bad but I don't know, feels good but ... man maybe i'll have to wear it like a fanny pack or something. lol

First thing I bought for my camera (after memory) is a strap...in fact I never even attached the OEM strap on the camera. Personally I love the Roots strap (only in Canada, eh!):

I also have the Hakuba Grip-PH grip strap on my camera, since I have trouble gripping the camera due to a hand injury.

personally, I am not a fan of most neck straps. Especially the wider ones. I wish they would come up with camera's that could hover. :) ok just kidding on that.... but, for me, there is nothing like a brand new camera strap - and after about a year or so, they start to go. Altough, I am still a fan of the strap that came with my D700. Its a nice width, and still in good shape.

You said you tried the R-Strap. What didn't you like about it?

I'm using it and LOVE it. It takes all the weight off the neck and i dont worry about the camera bouncing around in front of me.

I think i see in some of the British photo mags, some ads for a vest that you wear that the cameras (two bodies) attach to in order to take all the strain off having to wear any strap. Cant recall the name.. Uses some sort of cradle system attached to the front of the vest as well as the side near the hip for your second body.

Ditto. I recently picked up the RS-7 strap. So far I like it a lot.

I HATE the R-Strap!!!

I can't use any strap that crosses over in front of my neck...I have a very sensitive gag reflex; I can't even wear a tie or do up my top button.

My first decent digital only had one strap point, so the neck strap would come too close to the front of my neck...I never used the neck strap because of that. I complained to the company regularly, not only directly but in the forums as well (not only because of my neck, but the camera was too heavy for one strap point). The camera company changed their next model to have TWO strap points.

I once worked for a business that was bought by another company which forced us to wear ties because that's their image...I refused explaining why I can't wear ties, and saying it's either I leave, or they drop the tie requirement for our division (which had a different business name anyway). They relented since I always dressed neatly anyway.

You must be CEO of the former company... you need Dr. Ho (wait.. does that thing work?? )

There's a solution if your neck really can't take the weight, but it isn't cheap. You could buy a Blackrapid double strap and use key rings to suspend one camera from the two straps. This would place the weight on your shoulders, rather than your neck.

I should have used the word own it - the RS4. It's still my most used camera strap over my POTN neck strap (which I find way too bouncy).

I will still use the RS4 for certain situations and there are times I want a neck strap - that is not too harsh on the neck and at the same time the 100% neoprene ones allow too much stretching and starts bouncing around.

For the times I use the rapid strap, I find many times I have to readjust the position of the pad, seems to not grip so well. You solution above I think will address keeping the straps from moving around. Hmm, anyone else have this issue?

Edit: The pain is caused by my optech pro loop (neck strap), is it a wider neck pad which I've always assumed the wider it is the more comfortable it is. I've never tried a thinner one like the Domke yet.

You might want to consider the BlackRapid BRAD mod accessory. It clips to your RS strap and keeps it from shifting.
