Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. Hopefully it is...

I am about to sign a contract with an advertising agency to make about 75 lifestyle images for a website. I'll work for a week in various locations with a bunch of models/actors/actresses.

There is a clause that says that in the event that any equipment, materials and/or files become damaged, stolen or lost, the liability to cover all costs associated with replacing those images shall be my responsibility.

I guess that, in this kind of cases, it is advisable to have insurance. So the question is: what kind of insurance and which company will you recommend?

I would greatly appreciate your advice.

Thanks for reading.

Gloria

My insurance is with Royal & Sun Alliance via CG&B (the brokers). It includes professional liability insurance as well as "tape 'n neg" insurance to cover media loss and damage. The insurance can pay for things like having to hold a reshoot, expenses associated with data recovery, and so on.

Thanks for the info. I've thought about getting this for a while now... What kind of premiums are you looking at for that insurance? Any deductibles?

Well, I have a bunch of other things in my policy too, so the whole thing comes out to about $800/year. I don't know how much it would be just for professional liability or E&O (errors and omissions).

I never realized that State Farm does commercial insurance. Does this package cover E&O as well?

The three Canadian insurance brokers that I know of with policies designed specifically for photographers are CG&B, Cooks ISI (now called Harvard Western Insurance), and Nacora. You can piece together the same coverage from pretty much any other broker, but it's nice to have one comprehensive package that is already tailored to this profession.
