Well since that seems to be the primary requirement for the contract, I'm afraid that you will not be considered.

Wasn't that bid posted in here somewhere sometime last year? I would've dated the guy to get a shot at that!

Like he'd say, "I have a conflict of interest because I'm having an affair with her" or "I have a conflict of interest, but don't tell my wife."

... though that doesn't exclude the possibility that she said, "Get me a job, or I'LL tell your wife."

I think this sort of thing happens a LOT but we just don't hear about it. The only reason this came to light is because The Star reporter did some digging wrt the TTC.

It's not just the TTC that this occurs with but throughout the City bureaucracy. It's truly not about what you know but who you know (or who you. . . well.. you know...) when it comes to landing cushy stuff like this :)

Cheers,
Dave

haha...while this certainly SOUNDS enticing at first glance... I would hate my life if I really had to screw somebody just to get a job taking pictures of "future streetcar tracks." I mean... hey, at least go for something that's got some glamor in it! :P (/sarcasm joke just to be clear!)

very true... the people who supply those fancy garbage cans we have in the city are tied to maffia. But you didn't hear that from me.... and yes, I am half Sicilian on my mama's side. :)

Yeah, I'm tired of hearing stories about women being gold diggers. It's time for us men to step it up and get in the game!!

are you **** kidding me?

Yeah, women have so much power... that's why the average woman in Canada makes 70 cents for every dollar a man makes.

Yeah, I can't wait to finish my degree so I can start taking advantage of all that 'power'

One look at the gentleman's photo reveals it was anything but easy.
I doubt I could accept anything less than a 7 digit salary to be involved with him!! But the whole story adds credence to the old adage "It's not what you know, it's who you bl........................"

I don't think this is a woman using her body as power (again, an entirely problematic and untrue thing to say).. this is a man abusing his power to get someone close to him a job - spouses, relatives.. hello nepotism.

As a woman I don't know what you mean by that remark. My body and those of my female friends do not grant us power... they're a reason to feel unsafe alone at night, have been 'invitations' for harassment and TEN of my close friends have been raped (and those are just the ones who've told me) so don't for a second joke that our bodies grant us power because it's not true and it's not funny.

I ment to edit my comment last night and completely forgot .. A women who has no self respect can and has in the past used there body for power. To say all women do ofcourse not ..It is very possible and very real .. what you mentioned ( imo) has no relevance .. Ofcourse I am very sorry to hear that .. Moral of the story Humans in general can be F*(I) d up. I thought I read in an above post somewhere mentioning that the woman (playfully saying) keep the job otherwise she'll tell him wife .. Which is where my origional comment came from.

ps as you can tell Im very bad at explaining myself without doing it bluntly .. so here goes nothing .. Your telling me youve NEVER seen a girl use her good looks or her body to get something she wants? Thats what my original comment was supposed to potray.

I agree with you fullheartedly. The issue here isn't that someone used sexual favours to obtain a perk/job/money. It is about abuse of power/nepotism.

But in Mr. Walczak's defense (and I was equally guilty) the OP's remarks looked at the story from the perspective of the woman/photographer getting something due to her involvment with the politician and that coloured our responses. I am sure the OP meant it as a lighthearted take on the situation.

I find everything on this board is lighthearted which is great otherwise I would join the discussion at the Globe and Mail for more serious things.

Yeah, but that comes from disempowerment. If you're otherwise denied respect and promotions in the workplace then that is what one might resort to to get ahead.

It is 'lighthearted', yes, perhaps.. but it's ignoring larger and very important contexts and making light of things that aren't funny. This forum, while helpful, is very, very male dominated and far too often there are dialogues going on that while 'lighthearted' are ultimately quite sexist and it's so, so tiring to be reading those on a regular basis. Perhaps if this sort of language is kept in check a bit then there might be more women participating on this forum.

Typical pulling the equal rights card saying you have to abuse the power to get a head I work retail and not a day goes by a girl comes in flaunting herstuff for deals how is that relevant . I treat women with equal respect and if wanted they do have that power that can be used over us. By no means are we victims but we do not have that same power as women do in that aspect thus my original comment
