Seems just packing a starter pistol in your checked luggage ensures it is treated more securely.

Could work for traveling to the US and Canada but in some countries could get you in trouble where anything resembling a gun are banned.

That wouldn't work in the UK, the baggage handlers would nick the gun AND your kit.

geez, what kind of looks/checks you would get for packing like 2-3 pistols for your bags. I think you are probably asking for more trouble than it's worth, maybe?

Not to mention, your travel companions may think you're nuts to have to declare weapons each time you travel.

A general observation from surfing at POTN is that there are more than a few Americans that keep guns in their camera bags when they go out on shoots. Mostly Texans but still. They're right next door but sometimes they appear to be another world altogether. I can't imagine heading out the door to shoot on the Bruce Trail and thinking "Oh! Almost forgot my Glock!"

I know the EXACT thread of which you speak. It was an eye openner. It shocked me that even in rural areas many feel armed protection is required.

If it is the same one, probably is, I believe it started out talking about it being rude to approach a photographer taking pics of birds, or anything, which apparently necessitates the importance of always "carrying." I had to stop going through that thread, it was too sad.

And this is without mentioning all the pictures of guns in the lens galleries.
