Is the new DPP (3.8.0) actually available to download yet? I see the instruction manual but the program. Where do I download it from?

In my view Canon's DPP produces better results than Lightroom, and I still continue to use for important jobs. I'd say watch those video tutorials that Sere Dipity linked you to and then go play with the software. What is lacks in 'bells and whistles' vs. Lightroom, it makes up for with straight forward interface and better quality jpg output.

It's available from the same page you saw the .pdf manual. You need to indicate which operating system you use and THEN the .exe files appear.

Well. Well.Well
Thank you everybody. I definitely didn't expect such a technical response to my question. Or should I say I didn't expect to be so ill prepared to understand it.
But having digested the link I now understand the concept of shooting as far to the right as possible without falling off the histogram. But of a different approach to my film days. My obsolete light meter just became redundant.
