So I made myself a $10 Macro Light Box following this :
http://www.strobist.blogspot.com/2006/0 ... tudio.html

I decided to give it a try today. Took some pictures of my favorite beverages.

I need some help here. How do I avoid the reflection of the first 2 bottles while the third bottle turned out fine? The camera for all three was in the same spot didn't move. It was just the different shapes of the bottles.

Bottle shapes and the angle of the light source hitting the subject.

I read that empty bottles reflect less light so drink up. Just kidding.

BTW, you got some dust on your sensor.

So with the shape of the bottle like that how do I avoid the reflections? Do I move the camera at a different angle? But I wanted shoot it straight on for the look. How should I do it?

I need to start openning up some of these bottles before they past their prime so I maybe shooting empty bottles soon :lol

Yeah the sensor dust... I am just too lazy to clean it. I will make myself to do it soon :)

try make the inside all white (beside the background)

here's how my DIY look..
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ste823/4081309951/" title="DIY is always good by StE823, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2737/4081309951_ec17811abc.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="DIY is always good"></a>

and the outcome...
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ste823/4189875236/" title="Yutopia Yogurts by StE823, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4045/4189875236_87a0cc1a22.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Yutopia Yogurts"></a>

if im doing more product photography this year, i might get myself a 3"x3" cubelite from vistek and a set of studio lights! my DIY box is not portable at all :(

You may need a bigger lightbox to spread out the reflection. I assume the flash is set to it's widest zoom setting.

I did not use a flash. I use natural light from my window on one side and a white florescent light on the other side and from the top is just my kitchen ceiling light.

That's a pretty elaborate setup you got there but the outcome is really good. I guess I just get what I paid for which is much less than $10. I thought there is some technique that can help to reduce the reflection but I guess there isn't much I can do with what I have.

To me it looks like due to the shape of the bottle it is catching the light too much in the front. I would flag/block part of the opening so that the light is hitting the sides of the bottle more. Also, I think a larger light tent would help to diffuse the light more.

This saturday we are tackling this very subject .. lighting glass and metal. You should join us and bring your bottle.

Yes, there is an opening in the front. There are the 2 flaps of the box that I could close it as much as possible without getting into the shot. That still leaves the top opened which is where the curve of the bottle is catching the the light in the reflection. I will need to put another diffuser screen (a.k.a. tracing paper tape on a rectangular frame made of scrap cardboard) to cover the opening on top. I will also do what STe823 suggested to make all the interaor white. See if that helps.
Thanks

It has probably been mentioned but you can try to set up several gobos / flags to restrict the path of the light.
