Nice, now I know where to buy my next body together with extended warranty!

I wonder if you can buy extended warranty on A700 again?

Enjoy!

The a700 is a lovely camera. I had it and I miss it quite a bit.
Best layout and the Grip available for it is fully functional.

Yes the deal has been settled by fax (19pages listing repairs and notes and results of repairs). The manager saw the paper work which apparently did not arrive the first time, I listed the camera replacement I was willing to settle for and that they had an open box at the outlet store.

He agreed that it was enough and said he was having the Sony A700 shipped up to the store as they did not do any deliveries on the weekend. It should be at the store for Tue or Wed and at the latest by Thurs. All I have to do is go get the A100 from the Sony repair where I put it in and then make the exchange.

So sometime next week I go get the new body. It sounds like it is going to be a body for a body exchange. Hopefully that comes with a battery otherwise I will need to get one or two. At least they can be charged on the A100 charger so that is also a blessing.

I'll also get the grip for this camera, when I have somemore money.

Next will be working on getting the D2H fixed, unfortunately this one will cost $$$, as there is no warranty. The Shutter Curtain appears to be broke or torn.

Final Update.

I finally picked up the replacement camera today (Dec 30/09 - Feb 16/10 - 1 day short of 7 weeks). I got an open boxed Sony A700 for the replacement of the Sony A100. It was not just a straight camera body for camera body as the manager originally said. The assistant manager (who I dealt with now) told me they couldn't sell the A100 on it's own without the accesories (charger, battery, usb download wire and av wire, & strap). I could not operate the new camera with my existing equipment either. I got the body, battery, strap, remote, usb download wire, av wire, manual, cd all in the box. YEAH HOO!!!

The assistant manger said they were planning on fixing the A100 and selling it to recoupe some of the costs of the camera replacemnt I got as he said this was a considerable upgrade even in the price from $850 to $1150, that's what's on the bill so next time around (by the end of 5 years) it might come in handy.

As for the remainder of the warranty (till Aug 23, 2012), I was told that it has been fulfilled and is finished. However I do now have the warranty through Sony again for 2 years on this camera and within that 2 years I have the opportunity to purchase the 3 year extended warranty which covers the lemon policy all for $170.00.

So I am happy as it looks like I got the better deal and if & when I pay the extra warranty that would give me 5 year (till 2015).

Let's hope that this camera is a winner and keeps working great.

All that's left to do is get a second battery, and then eventually the grip for the A700. Oh, yeah and fix the Nikon D2H now - not under any warranty however.

This makes complete sense -- as there is no point in them keeping extra parts for a camera which is no longer in their posession.

Henry's only lets you buy an extended warranty either within 14 days or 21 days of purchase. You do NOT have 2 years to decide on an extended warranty.

Cause if you did, you can just buy the warranty after it breaks within the 2 years and Henry's will be losing money repairing it for you.

actually... she has the option of buying the extended warranty from SONY -- not Henry's - and Sony will give you lots of time - just before their normal warranty runs out. I believe this is what Maureen was talking about. Yes, Henry's sucks when it comes to their warranty options.

Makes sense but Sony does not have a lemon policy. They will only replace if deemed unrepairable.

I do have the option of getting the extended warranty at Sony, don't think it is any better, than Henry's. I was told by the assistant manager that I did not need to decide at that time about the extended warranty (Henry's), but could purchase it at any time before the 2 years ran out. I will clarify this with the manager, to make sure this is true. Otherwise I will likely pay it before the time runs out since it paid off this time.
