Rob Galbraith's head to head test of the Canon 1D MKIV vs Nikon's D3s is online.

How much merit do you place into these reviews?

Take with a grain of salt is what I say.

Cause he used the wrong AF option for what he was testing.

And does that make him biased? I'm not saying he is or isn't, but it's very easy to dismiss people without reading the full findings. He has a lot of good things to say about the MKIV and some negative things to say about the D3S.

I personally am Nikon biased as I've never used a Canon before and really have no skin in this game but his findings on the MKIII did force Canon to make some changes to that camera. Everything about the MKIV I've read has been pretty positive so it does look like a great camera from where I'm sitting.

FYI, yes, I did read the full review. I must have forgotten to make mention of that by me pointing out the obvious Nikon banners and the URL.

When someone puts food on your plate, it's customary to not bite the hand that feeds you. Saying that you should take the review with a grain of salt just points out the other obvious fact that any review should be taken with a grain of salt.

I shoot Canon but I'm unbiased to any brand. I've recommended Nikon gear just as much as Canon and Sony etc gear to friends. I'm a PC user but I'm unbiased to Macs 'cause I do own both systems. Does that also make me a Nikon basher?

Where did I suggest you were a Nikon basher? I thought we were talking about RG? Really, my comments weren't meant as a personal attack and I'm sorry if you took them that way.

I just recall that same argument being used against him when he did the MKIII reviews due to the banners. I'm sure he'd love for Canon, Sony and whoever to advertise on his site as well. I recall he ripped into the D2H pretty badly when it came out way back when but I could be wrong.

When you read these things always read several reviews. Never rely on one.

Note that he was pretty much a Canon guy until his experience with the 1DmIII. It was his testing that pointed out the serious problems with the Mark III's AF system and he spent months getting Canon to admit to the issues (which they've never fully admitted)

It's pretty clear from that testing that the Mark IV's doing much better than the III, but the AF system still needs some tweaking.
