Details:
Update: No Sunset but it's still on you just have to work harder to get a moody shot.

Telephone (I may not answer if I have my hands full:
http://www.rraz.ca/ex/rrtel.jpg

What: Un-Sunset From Balmy Beach
When: Sun Feb 14th (Rain date next year or maybe sat 13th)
Time: 4:30pm
Where: At the end of Nursewood road next to the RC Harris Water Treatment plant. Last stop Queen East Streetcar route. For those coming by car I'm not 100% sure there is still parking at the Water Works also we will most likely walk to mid beach and then up to Queen for some hot chocolate or something stronger.

Bring: Tripods if you want to take some after dark shots. For the hopefully sunset shots a telephoto lens is best.

http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=10+Nursewood+road,+Toronto&sll=43.673958,-79.281217&sspn=0.011531,0.015857&gl=ca&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=10+Nursewood+Rd,+Toronto,+Toronto+Division,+Ontario&ll=43.672357,-79.282472&spn=0.023063,0.031714&z=15

From a vantage point of near the RC Harris Water works the sun will be setting directly over Toronto's financial district making for some interesting light on the beaches and towards the city core.

just a bump as we get closer. I also just realized that Monday is a holiday so it is a rain date in case the sun fails to shine.

I'm a maybe for this event right now because, as much as I want to come, I think the gf might be a little upset if I make her stand around out in the cold while I take pictures of sunset...on valentine's day
...although it wouldn't be the first time I dragged her out into the cold to take pictures.

That's one of the many reasons her and I get along so well...I like to be on one side of the camera, she likes to be on the other...

If you come armed with a 70-200mm zoom lens, you can replicate that image easily. I've shot the sunset from this part of the beach many many times. I used to live in the hood.

There's only few days twice a year when the sun is setting in the right place. It's also worth noting that the sun will be setting directly along the east west streets in the coming week.

Would like to come out. What is the best way to get there coming in from 427? Meeting right at Balmy Beach? Sorry, not really familiar with the area and wouldn't want to miss everyone.

Thanks

I think either DVP down to Lakeshore E, or get down to Gardiner through Black Creek, and go to the end (East) and follow Lakeshore E

Why not meet at RC Harris? I recall there being lots of parking there.

Not a bad idea except that it could be a long walk back at the end of the shoot for those that drive. If we start at mid beach and walk east until sunset at the RC Harris then walk back to mid beach to take night shots before the optional food at the end it might be better? What do you drivers think?

It doesn't really matter if you are taking the queen street TTC streetcar.

What could be more romantic for valentines: your significant other; a beach; sunset and at least a dozen TPMGers taking candids with long lenses

Just curious if the orchid show you're referring to is the one @ Toronto Botanical Garden this weekend? Or are you referring to another one?

I didn't find anything posted about this event, however for those interested, here's link to event.

Not to mention the 8th Annual Lake Simcoe Winter Sports Festival on Saturday and Sunday. I went several years ago and had a great time. Just a bit of a drive.

Just a thought how about making the list of other things to do this weekend on an another adhoc list? That way I can keep this thread for news and questions about the topic and people don't get endless notifications on unrelated stuff.

Doesn't look like any sunset but I'm not cancelling as there's still plenty to shoot.

The weather is not too cold but still dress warmly as the wind off the Lake can be cold and Humid.
