Apparently.
According to Nikon Rumours at least.
I wonder about the VR in wides (and super wides) - I never quite understood that but I'm sure there are folks that will appreciate it once it's released.
The 24mm is apparently a lens that was valued a great deal before it disappeared and still goes for quite a bit of money on the used market.
If it's "reasonably" priced (under $2000 or thereabouts) I may consider it.
Cheers,
Dave |

| I have the 14-24, and putting VR on a lens that wide is just silly. I don't see the point either. |

Dave - i think the discontinued WA that you are thinking of is the scarce and very expensive 28/1.4 AFD. A 24/1.4 would be a different lens altogether and I'm betting it's a DX and not an FX Nikkor (if 24/1.4)

I'd be hoping for an FX and not a DX lens - I can hope can't I?

| i've with dave on this. i'm really hoping for a FX 24m 1.4, that thing on a d700 would just rock. Of course the old 28mm will too but unfortunately thats not in the budget. |

Ken, the 24/1.4 AF-S that is expected is very definitely expected to be a FX lens, and a fairly exotic one. Nikon's answer to the 24L.
Note Sony is expected to announce something similar as well, a Zeiss 'large aperture wide-angle'. They were showing mockups last year, but without details.
It's looking like primes are coming back with the major brands, but only as exotics. |

i guess the 24mm 1.4 will equate to a 36 (close to standard 35mm) in a DX body. I can see that being popular for sure.
VR is popular right now, i guess Nikon thought they better be reactive? |

I dig exotic stuff.
I think, even if it's, as someone has speculated, $2400 after taxes for that 24 f1.4, I think I may snag it - as long as it performs as I would expect it to.
I loved the 24L when I was shooting Canon - was really good for weddings on the 5D. Just wide enough without being too crazy
Cheers,

when i first read 24mm f/1.4, i thought: "wow, sounds like a lens i'd be interested, i'm sure it will be expensive though so i'll start saving up now" ...
... and then i read ...

IS on the Canon 24-105L @ the wide end is useful for hand-held landscapes @ dusk for me (full frame). I don't take my tripod on vacations, so IS comes in handy for sure. IS still gets you a couple of extra stops, wide angle or otherwise. Cheers. |

| wow - impressive, only downside is that the 24/1.4 is a G lens (no aperture ring). |

Dang.. no pricing info as of yet - I do expect it to be in the $2000+ range but would be happy with $1500
(well not "happy" but at least it wouldn't be $2000+)

Ken, I agree, I bemoan the incompatibility with the great Nikon film bodies, but that seems to be the direction they're going...
24mm is unfortunately my favourite focal length... maybe I will switch |

IMHO, the 16-35VR is over-priced by a mile. The 24/1.4G price is where I expected it to debut. It will come down in price to be somewhat in line with the Canon version. |

Oh well.. $2400 isn't that bad is it?

If you compare it to the 28 1.4 then it's a bargain...lol Glad I held out, 3k-5k for it was nuts! |

Now we wait for the "other" releases throughout this year and, perhaps, into next. 50mm f1.2 AF-S G and 35mm f1.4 AF-S G
I can see myself drawing down a whack of $$$ this year on lenses.. c'est la vie

| It'll definitely drop in price a bit. I think most people will go for the new lens for sure. The 28/1.4 will always be that niche lens that collectors will have though. |

| I think $2399 is fair as the Canon one is around $2099. Nikon lenses are generally a little pricier, anyways. |
