It depends on what you think is interesting, my opinion is grab your camera and explore neighbourhood by neighbourhood. I think you need to spend time and effort to explore and that will give you unique photos and then you learn the city and where you prefer to shoot. What I find interesting you may not. Look through the ad hoc section and see where people have shot before if your not the exploring type.

PS: When I am looking for new places I go to google maps and use the satellite image and scour the city for areas I may have missed or I may have over looked. The city is huge and tons and tons of places to shoot if you put the effort in.

That's a great idea. Well what are some of the places that you go to?

I go all over, I been shooting for 27 years and I have been all over the city and I have no favourites. You live near Cabbagetown and the Waterfront those would be two decent places to start also your close to Kensington Market, China Town, your downtown even the financial district can be a good place to shoot, Queen West for street photography. Your at Yonge and Dundas you should have a ton of places to shoot. Pick a direction and walk that way, cut in and out of side street, alleys. etc. University Ave. is a decent walk and at times depends on the sky you can get some dramatic shots. I walk a lot, I pack my gear and and start walking in a direction I have not been in a while. Another idea is hop the subway, pick a random stop get off and walk towards home and see what you find. I always do it randomly, I wake up feel like shooting I just go and shoot.

I think this is the single best piece of advice for you, unce. You haven't defined what is "interesting" to you, and everyone has a different opinion. You already live in one of the most diverse areas of town. For an urban or street photographer, you have an incredible variety to choose from within a 15-minute walk or transit ride. You're not going to find something interesting every time you go out, but you will slowly figure out what neighbourhoods and buildings you like.

You have Rosedale/Yorkville to the north, Chinatown to the west, the waterfront to the south, and Riverdale to the west, and everything in between. That should be enough for at least a few dozen outings. Go by foot, so you don't miss anything. I've lived down at Yonge and QQ for 15 years now, and I still find new places to check out. Last month, I wandered down to the foot of Bathurst. Instead of turning right to the island airport ferry, I turned left instead and looked around Ireland Park and the Canada Malting buildings. It's closed off now for construction, but I'll remember it for later if I'm looking for photos of a rusty, decrepit environment.

Thanks for all the great advice. It's true I haven't really explored downtown even tho I have lived here for awhile. And I keep forgetting to go to Kensington Market

Toronto is a city of hidden back alleyways of which many are worth a visit.
