among other posts on here and yes because you don't want to join a social for what reason? I still don't know why? because it would take an effort to go there? Please people don't get me wrong if I'm out of line let me know . I feel that everyone should be aware of everyones needs on this forum .. This forum to me is like a community ( a democratic one at that ) I think Hotwire hit it on the head with what he said. My choice of words may be a little harsh but my motive is still the same. I have to work my ass to get to certain events due to my location and lack of a car but they pay off is worth it to me

If there is a social in Mississauga and I'm not busy (working or what not) I guarantee you I will be there

You want to work your ass to get to certain events and you enjoy doing so, that's completely fine with me but I don't want to do the same and I guess I do have a choice, don't I?? If I have to work my ass off just to get to certain events then it would be a pain in the ass to me and what purpose does it serve? I would be very miserable and worked up by the time I get there and it wouldn't be a nice scene for anyone, well, since I'm very selfish, for me then.

It looks like the only way we can be fair is to divide TPMG into GTA chapters each area could have there own social where people from other chapter would be free to come out and join or not as the case may be.

* City of Toronto
* Regional Municipality of Durham
* Regional Municipality of Halton
* Regional Municipality of Peel
* Regional Municipality of York
* Hamilton
* Niagara and Guelph (possibly)

Another possibility is just change the name to GTAPMG (has a certain ring doesn't it)

Downtowner's have just as much right to complain with out be called lazy as the under served out of towners.

I think the root of the issue, from what I can sense from all of these posts is that there are some that don't agree with the socials be held outside of Toronto and that it should all be within Toronto and easy to get to, while keeping in mind of folks that needs wheelchair access.

We have discussions that elsewhere among the organizers and we try our best to make sure that the location selected for the social is wheel-chair accessible and close to the TTC. We book rooms that are wheel-chair accessible and if we can't get such a room, we will look for an alternative venue if time allows for it.

We're all adults here. If you can't make it to a social because of other priorities, fine. I don't think anybody is ever complaining about it but they do let others know that the would love to join but can't because of x y and z, that's fine. Though it seems in this discussion, I'm sensing that there are individuals that feels that the socials with this group be held within Toronto and that having an event outside of Toronto doesn't jive with what TPMG is.

For those who are relatively new and we were still with meetup.com, we had outings that went out of town. Socials and such have in fact been largely in and around Toronto but that core group back then was pretty Toronto-centric (well I do recall somebody from Barrie I think). Given that the group has grown significantly since then, with quite a few folks from the 905 region, we have adjusted the events and socials such that we try and offer a bit of variety. As mentioned already, 3/4 of all of the socials are held in the 416.

At the end of the day, we try make everybody happy but we can't please everybody. We're all adults here.

You just proved my initial post.

This is the attitude my first post was referring too. No mean to offend others.
Im sure many members would lend a hand or tips on easiest ways of getting there .. either way I love what the forums stands for and what it does and fully support it .. I'm not here to stir up things I'm here to learn photography and get together with people who share my same passion.

As I said many of times, if people don't like how the events are ran you as an individual is more than welcome to lead an event in the ad-hoc.

That's the reason why we have that ad-hoc section as it was based on feedback where people wanted to help improve the community and offer other events which has worked out well IMO.

No, you initial post was that everyone should work your ass to get there if not you are lazy and selfish. Now you obviously don't understand what I'm trying to say here.

My first post was to be taken that if your complaining the event is too far and too much of a hassle for you to get too strickly because you have no ride then your being lazy as discussed many a time there were many different ways to get there

Hi Folks, the next social will be in Toronto. We are currently proposing a downtown central location.

Please, if you have something positive to ad to this thread, continue to do so, but if your posting is directed to another member, I invite you to take advantage of the PM (private message) feature of TPMG. thank you very much, and have a nice day!

I don't think anyone is complaining how the events are being run? I also don't believe it has anything to do with adhoc events. Personally I was pointing out the wide area the GTA covers and how impossible it would be to divide up the socials or official events to be fair in all areas.

Maybe you need more organizers that are responsible for specific areas of the GTA

Just please let me post one last time, is there a rule here that you must go to the social? I would love to see it. I just don't understand why that I am being called lazy and selfish because I don't go to the social.

Ryan, organizers are volunteers. If there are people here that want to run these events, by all means, they can contact us to vounteer to do this work.

Its not because you didn't go ... Lots of members did not go .. Its the attitude you showed towards it/prior to it.

I don't think the forum should be segregated into communities I think everyone should just be aware of everyone else and put eachothers situations into consideration. Do the best t make everyone happy.

We have no such rule, nor did I as an organizer expect everyone at TPMG to attend this social. As for comments other members have made, I cannot comment. Although I will just say, that Pickering is not far for someone like myself who drives, I understand the frustration of public transit for those without vehicles, at one time I used to join that rank.

Just rename the club to GTA Photography Meetup group. Otherwise, it's false advertising.

Or why don't you be accepting of non Downtown folks? Much easier... Do you want to shell out the money to pay for all new tags and logo?

Who is not accepting the non downtown folks? You've got pretty good imagination.

You've got to understand that I had never complained about the social being in Pickering or Mississauga. You're the one who keeps on calling people names for not going. I just don't understand that is it a criteria that you must make it to the social???

See you keep saying that .. I didnt come down on those who didn't goto the social so you can stop trying to make it look like I did .. I commented on those who didnt go because it was not in "Toronto" the ones who complained atleast which were very few. Again Since I have to repeat myself I only commented on those who complained not those who did not come .. This thread should be closed due to this never ending argument. It's clearly going nowhere I stand by my opinion and Im sure others stand by theres.

End

I don't have any problem with events outside of downtown. It gets me out to places I've not seen before. But I didn't go this time because I didn't feel like going the distance on a Sunday night when I like to have an early night to gear up for the week. And I sometimes feel like a pest constantly asking for a ride. So I understand why some won't do it. And if you're up for transit, good on ya, but no one should be made to feel like crap because they don't want to make the journey.

Sometimes I'll make the trek and sometimes I'm like nah, nevermind. But I think there's enough variety for everybody without getting into virtual punch ups.

Can someone lock this thread already?

Pam has posted her kittens, there is nothing more that needs to be said.

I remain of the opinion that the only way to be fair is to be equally prejudicial towards all.

As a brand new member who has attended one event (Island Meetup), I find this funny. I think you will have posts like this in ANY forum about any topic. I didn't attend this social but hopefully I will make the next one. I'm not going to try to pick a side or anything, I just wanted to let you guys know what I think this group is about. This is pretty much an outsiders perspective as I haven't participated THAT much up to this point.

To me this group is something that one can participate in whenever they want. This is a group of people who enjoy photography and want to spend time outside with like minded individuals, however serious or casual they are about it. If I don't want to attend an event because I have a funeral to go to or there's a Dog the Bounty Hunter marathon on A&E, It shouldn't matter. I'm sure we get enough grief over our commitment to our families, our kids, or our significant others. This group shouldn't be another source for this kind of frustration.

If all of our meet-up's and socials were in Toronto, we would be missing out on a lot of fantastic places to discover. If you ask me about places to take photo's I would have a pretty short list (I'd probably have you guys trespassing at the brickworks haha), because I have lived in the city all my life. People who live outside of the city, people who are younger, people who are older, DIFFERENT people make this group what it is. I live downtown and while it's convenient to walk to events around here, the reason I joined this group is to discover new places to shoot and rediscover the places I already have been. If I went shooting on the island on my own or with one person, I would probably have never gotten the photo opportunities I had. Not because I was doing what I saw others do, but because I was surrounded by so many fantastic people that made spending 8 hours in the freezing cold a joy. This extended time outside allowed me to get the shots I wanted.

This entire site, and the people who spend time organizing and arranging these meet-ups, cost me absolutely nothing. If I go to an event and 8 people show up, that's great. That's about 6 more people, that are passionate about photography, than I could have scrounged up.
