Looks like some really cool features, would be interesting to know if anyone uses it, who has used Lightroom before. Interested in opinions.
Shooting tethered without any intermediate program, like eos utility sounds awesome too.

Some of the features I found interesting:
Focus Mask**
Accelerate your image selection by using the Focus Mask for fast verification of image sharpness and focus. The Focus Mask is applied both to the image(s) in the viewer and to the thumbnails in the image browser. The Focus Mask is perfectly suited for portrait, wedding and fashion shoots.

Focus Tool**
Get an instant, true view of image sharpness with the Focus tool. Use it as part of your fixed tool tab or drag it out as a floating tool.

Skin Tone Enhancer**
Achieve perfect, smooth and soft appearing skin tones with the Skin Tone Enhancer.

RGB Levels and Curves**
RGB Levels and Curves provide a tool, which enables you to adjust individual color channels easily and to be creative with colors.

Advanced Lens Correction
Explore an easy way to work on classic optical issues like distortion, light falloff, vignetting and purple fringing. With the Lens Correction Tool, physical corrections are applied through Chromatic Aberration, Purple Fringing, Distortion, Sharpness- & Light Falloff and vignetting. If your lens is already known by Capture One, corrections will automatically be added as the image is loaded.

!!! High Dynamics Range tool
Use the High Dynamic Range tool to recover shadow or highlight detail.

Proof Profile
Soft proof your colors against a specific output device by selecting the appropriate ICC profile as Proof Profile. Proof Profile is integrated with the process recipes in order for you to easily proof each different type of output.

These are some of the features that Lightroom lacks. Price aside, looks very nice

i saw the site. There's a 30 day trial, so you can download and try it and then tell us how it performs. :)

I just started the trial a few days ago. No report yet .. the interface definitely takes some getting used to.

I currently use LR and CS4 but I've heard some good things about Capture One so I thought I'd take a look at it.

Superb piece of software, I'm running the basic version right now but I did use Pro for a month and will be upgrading as soon as I have available funds.

For batch-processing it simply walks all over everything else on the market, You can colour correct one shot from a set and apply the changes to every other shot in the set with 2 clicks. The Skin Tone tool works extremely well for removing colour casts (it's not skin-tone-specific, you can set up presets for anything including a colour checker chart).

It also has some of the best NR and and sharpening in a RAW converter.

I highly recommend reading the manual when just getting started, CaptureOne's an older piece of software (dates to the 1990's) so the UI is not the standard 'Clone PS shortcuts' setup and some tings are a little odd to deal with due to the emphasis on batch processing, it's not really setup to do one shot at a time but rather to process a bucnh of shots then export as a group. Very different workflow than say ACR. But VERY efficient once you get used to it. It's significantly cut down on my time spent post-processing and I'll get an even bigger boost once I get Pro and get the Styles (presets) back.

OP thx for the link. I too use LR and CS4. However it is always good to be aware of other tools that are available.

Of course opinions vary but I am a LR user. Simply because I get deals on Adobe software. Even so, the only advantages for me to switch would be the ability to shoot directly into the app. Where as LR uses watched folders for shooting tethered. The other nice feature would be the ability to see what areas are in focus. That's not critical by any means but it could be handy. Plus LR is a rapidly evolving application so it may end up offering features the C1 doesn't.

For what it's worth you can work quickly and manage huge shoots in either app. If your shooting MFD then the faster preview when tethered would win the battle but both are exceptional.

If your not a pro then I would say save the $100 and put it towards studio time rental. The difference is not likely to make you a better photographer IMO.

Anyway, from last shoot I did, I must say Capture One wins my vote for studio work hands down.
1. Lightroom is a pain in the ass for tethered shooting
2. Capture One is way faster processing files on my old laptop
3. End result just looks awesome right away, thanks to great sharpening tool in Capture One, whereas in LR I need to do more
4. One button develop settings copy in Capture One, instead of syncing (2 or 3) in LR
5. Ability to copy colour settings (wb and colour adjustments) as well as general settings (pretty much anything) from the last shot to the next AUTOMATICALLY, all while still shooting (LR doesn't even have this)

That's what I thought was awesome.

Now I did get frustrated a bit coming from a LR workflow, it takes time to get used to Capture One. Another thing is sessions, while being a very useful feature to keep shoots organized, I did lose some photos that I don't know where they went... puzzled.

Anyway, developing-wise I am going to stick to LR and PS, yet when it comes to studio work, Capture One is the way to go!
