Nope... not the PPMG.... but hey, not the first time we've gone to another region of the GTA. I've just called to make the booking, I told them we'd have 30 ppl.... so please register if you are coming! And if you need a ride to get here, let us know. It's not actually that far from Toronto - closer than it sounds!

I believe the ride discussion will not get moving until you announce the daytime shooting event, as that will impact those who are driving, or at least who they are coming with.

for people with no cars the easiest way to get there is Get to Yorkdale or York mills or Scarborough town and take the 94 GO bus east it drops you off right in front of Lonestar and it runs pretty late

I will be coming across the 401 to attend the social, and perhaps the outing earlier in the day, depending on what is involved and timing, etc. I may have one or two people with me heading out that way, but probably could offer a ride to one or two people heading back toward Yorkdale after the social. Will know more once the day's event is posted. :)

OK, I will get the daytime event posted soon. I am just in Whitehorse right now, so I won't work on the details until I get back.

Wow, your first post and you decide to diss us.
Let me be the first to say, if Pickering is out of your comfort zone, don't join us. And for the record, the last time I checked, Pickering was still considered part of the GTA.

I joined to get more information on the next event, but then was surprised to see that it's way out of Toronto. No disrespect there.

Hey guys, To explain, we have a large contingent of members from the 905 region. Actually 3 of the organizers live outside of the city... but yes, this is the Toronto Photography Meetup Group, and vast majority of our events and socials do take place within city boundries. But, from time to time, we have had socials in other area's of the GTA to include the population of our membership. For example, we have had a social up in Richmond Hill twice, as well as Mississauga near Sqaure One. Toronto is a big place, and its nice to try and give everyone some options to come and join us. We haven't had a social in Durham for a long time, and honestly... Pickering isn't nearly as far as somewhere like Brampton! So that is the story behind the choice of location for this month's social. Next month, it will probably be somewhere central in the city.

Hi all,

I am sorry to announce, there will not be a day-time event organized by me. This is due to the fact that its the only weekend in the entire month of January that I will actually spend with my wife ... so unless I want to become un-married, I have other obligations during the daytime, but we will both see you all at 5pm for the social.

I am planning to do a daytime event in Durham in February... I will keep you posted on the date. It will be titled "Durham Winter Wonderland".

thanks,

David

An excellent plan, but there is still the requisite problem of how to fill all that time between leaving the camera show and going to the social.

I think almost this same day last year with a camera show there was a Zoo event that John ran, but to be honest I'm a little zoo'd out at the moment. I think dinner was at the same establishment that night too.

There may be a day-time event afterall. Another organizer is "looking into it".... we'll let you know if anything transpires from that.

So, total case in point: the organiser from Brampton is now doing the day event in Durham

Unfortunately, I can't make it on a Sunday :(

I think some of the reaction to these decisions is rooted (at least for me) in the fact that most people who live in the 905 have cars and thus can easily make it to Toronto for socials. While many, many people who live in the downtown (myself included) do not have cars, and thus it is nearly impossible or prohibitively time consuming, to make it to events in the GTA. The east is particularly bad.

I was a member of this club when it was actually on meetup.com and I've been an on and off again member since. These decisions however make it less palatable for me to, since these socials are just near impossible to get to, and it seems (guess just my dumb luck) that every social is way out. I miss the regularity of the socials at the Bedford Academy.

The last social was held at the Madison, and unfortunately, the service was really horrible, so I don't know if we'll return there anytime soon. Chances are that the next social (Feb.) will be somewhere along the TTC line, though we really haven't discussed it that far yet.

As for the socials in the GTA being impossible to get to, people often offer rides to those without cars. If you're willing to make a day of it, and go to the Automotive Museum in the afternoon, there are a couple of offers of rides to that and the social, listed on that thread.
