After taking a certain amount of pictures, (i believe it's around 2gb's worth) everything thereafter becomes corrupted. has this ever happened to anyone before? is it a formatting issue? or is this card defective?

I've had very bad luck with Kingston ram in my PC (having module after module fail), and I suspect their flash cards are just as bad.

After getting better non-Kingston ram for my PC I haven't had a module fail since.

do you format it in camera everytime you start shooting a new set?

everytime i transfer a set of pics to my computer i drop the card back into the camera and format it before shooting anything new. if it keeps up after that chances are it's pooched...but try another card as well, could also be the camera (unlikely but ya never know...)

i have had one card take a nose-dive, 8G LexarPro 233..
what a p-i-t-a it was getting that thing RMAed, if the other 3 go the same way i'll replace them with Sandisk before trying through Lexar

Plug it into you PC format the card and run chkdsk on it. Do a surface check. (the longest slowest one). That will tell you if there are issues on the card. Kingston has a lifetime guarantee and my cards work great (4 gig and 16 gig).

Where did you purchase it? Online (ebay) or reputable dealer?

Hmm... I have a 16GB Kingston CF card from Canada Computers and the thing is a waste of money. It took half a dozen tries to get most - but not all - of my photos off the card (about 1000 photos), and I have not been able to format it and clear it off. It's also supposed to be super fast and is waaaaaaaayyyy slower than the non-high speed cards I have. I tried shooting a rally with it.. and I think I took 12 frames before becoming so frustrated with how slow it was that I haven't used it since. I don't know what to do about this, though I wish I did...

What speed was the card rated for or transfer speed? If it's like 133x or even 200x that's considered UBER slow esp for large amounts of data. For 16GB, you'd probably want to get something in the 300x UDMA class with a 30-40+MB/s transfer rate. Anything less and a full 16GB card will get you gray hair.

There are two types of disk checks...

1) A fast one that checks the integrity of the filesystem
2) A slow one that writes to each spot on the drive and then sequentially reads from that.

You want test #2.

Similarily there are two types of formats:

1) a fast one that sets up the file system and does not check
2) a slow one that writes out each byte and checks it.

Again you want #2.

Personally I would just send it back to Kingston.

I have a kingston CF 8GB. Its the worse card ever...i have the same problem as yours, except I can only take ~10 pics.

Kingston lifetime warranty only applies if you keep all original receipts.

No receipt, no warranty. Waste of money.

I stopped buying kingston and switched only to sandisk or adata.
