i just picked up my processed e6 that i dropped off at a store in downtown last friday and this is what i got back.. (i wanna be sure it's not my problem before i say which store it is)

any idea wat happened? i've processed e6 at the place before and results were great and i've scanned the before e6 on my scanner just now and they turn out fine. One thing i notice is that the whole roll looks a bit dim when viewing on a lightbox ?!? and looks kinda between a slide and a neg Please tell me what happened

i'm pretty sure it's not user error and i've consistently put through rolls an rolls through my m6 these few months.

it seems all the shadow areas are screwed.... every single frame in the whole roll has the same problem.
*note* not the best shot but it shows the problem!

That looks like wonkey developing to me. Assume you're talking about the strange colour fringe in the shadows? Where did you have it processed?

Also, if the slide looks dim on the lightbox it's probably a result of underexposure. Was it new in date film?

it's not just dim, it looks like the slide turned into a neg! the film has expire date of 2011 and i've shot a roll from the same purchase and developed it 1 month or so ago at downtown camera no problems. LOL

since we are on the topic, where should i develop my next roll of e6? :P and one more side question, i dropped off a roll of bw at dc last friday and they still dunno when they can finish developing it and gimme back it yet o-o usually how long does it take?

WHAT!!! THAT LONG!!! Take it to 8 Elm! They develop in 15 minutes! Colour or B/W!

As for the problem it looks to be a developing error. DT must have screwed up the chemicals or something.

8 Elm is not actually located at 8 Elm street anymore but are rather now a bit further down the road. I do not know the exact address off hand but they are on elm street just east of University on the south side. Small little shop but great service and pricing. if you want proofs or your shots however it does take a few days. jsut the processing is 15 minutes for un-cut rolls which is im sure what you would prefer. they are also a FANTASTIC leica dealer as i assume you are refering to your Leica M6 here:

my wife says it looks like cross contamination of the chemicals

i dont have anything scanned unfortunately. all of my stuff has gone through classic darkroom procedures. no cash to pick up a scanner and do it all myself or take them to a lab to have them do it (darkroom is free at school :D ). If you are in the city dropping off or picking up film already then definitely go to 8 Elm. i think they only charge me like 3 dollars for neg processing, and thats before my student discount :P

Two possibilities:

1. 2 stop under exposure in which case the red is a scanner artifact because the mostly black slide, the black point setting and black balance is incorrect (white balance is really just a partial colour balance. In this shot it could be a metering error as the light in the door way is correct.

2. Developing error in which case most labs will make good.

someone should really open up a lab on the north end, the closest that i was able to find that does e6 on site was northern artist on yonge/st clair.

the quality wasn't too bad for the most part but some 120 e6 films had tiny chemical burn mark which i assume is from drying or something.

the whole roll is like that and i shot another roll of slide before this roll (same iso) and that turned out fine when i developed it at dc a month ago. ahh dunno where i should go develop my next roll lol.

They cross-processed a roll of 120 E-6 on me during the summer. Kindof made me question taking anything else to them. George had even written "E-6" in block letters on the envelop when I brought it in. I don't shoot a lot of film but when I do, I want it processed properly. They were nice enough to give me a fresh roll, and they didn't charge me for the processing, but the shots were useless to me.

http://www.photogs.com/bwworld/bwfilmdev.html

i started doing mine after reading this

http://www.digitaltruth.com/devchart.php

and refer to this chart for the times

the hardest part was learning how to load film onto the reels in the dark, but if you just waste a roll and practice on the light you get used to it

i just do the stop bath using water to reduce the amount of chemicals i need

have fun!

Been over 15yrs since I processed my own B&W film. My developing gear is tucked away in the basement somewhere.

A number of years ago I was on a dive trip and a friend wanted some u/w pics for his dad's resort website etc. I shot a couple rolls of Fuji 100/1000 and told the guys at the lab repeatedly that they needed to process them at 1000. The idiots processed them at 100. Got lots of black slides back. I don't even know why they bothered to mount them. They just shrugged their shoulders and said "Ooops. There's no charge for this. Sorry about that." Wow, almost killed someone that day. Had a few shots of manta rays on the roll too!! ARGH!
