Details:

What: Spadina House Interior Shoot
When: Sunday November 29th 2009
Time: 10AM to 12PM
Where: Spadina House is located at Austin Terrace & Spadina Ave. (next to Casa Loma)
Bring: Tripods will be permitted, and your camera's too of course!

This is an opportunity to shoot in Spadina house, which is the home of James Austin's family. The Austin's were part of Toronto's high society at the turn of the century (1900's) and were financier's (actually provided financing to Henry Pellatt whom build Casa Loma next door).

Unfortunately we are being made to sign a waiver stating that the photographs which we take will be used "for personal use only". You cannot sell the pictures taken at this event, but I am sure if you wanted to make arrangements in the future to use one of the photo's, you could contact the Spadina house to obtain permission.

We will be split into group's of two -- I am opening up the registration to the first 5 people now, and the second group will open up tonight around 11pm.

Finally... there is an admission charge of $5.94 ea. So please bring some cash. After the event is over, we can go grab some lunch somewhere in the area.

This is the fallback incase my Vanier Cup plans fall through. I should know one way or the other other in the next 24 hours.

Sounds good, but a little hard to coordinate with my Rattray Marsh event a few hours later.... ;) (And the fact that I'll want to sleep in that morning!) :D

Ya, sleep is for the weak! :) - just kidding. I knew that organizing this event on the same day as the social and marsh walk was difficult for some, but it was the last opportunity, and the only day I am available to do it. The Spadina house closes for restoration as of December until sometime towards the end of 2010. So it will not be open during Doors Open next year. Its a wonderful place to visit.

Well seeing as Laval screwed the pooch when it came to ticket availability for anyone not cheering for the Laval home team, at the best I'll visit Kingston on Saturday to watch it, but that's looking unlikely.

I'm in!

Hi guys! So I will see all of you tomorrow. If you could meet at the main entrance to Spadina House tomorrow just before 10am, then we will proceed indoors together. Please remember to have the entry fee with you. We can proceed outdoors afterwards to do some exterior shots. thanks,

David

Thank you to all of those who came! There was a minimum charge, thus 8 of us ended up paying for a group of 10.

Lz7j, ren and simon did not show, and because this was a specially arranged event, that really wasn't cool. If you can't make it to an event, please unregister in future. Thank you.

Thanks David for organizing. that was my first time inside the Spadina House. It was really great to see inside the building.

Thanks David for organizing. Was really fun to be there. This house must have been a sight in its heyday. A lot of thanks to the staff there as well. They were very helpful and friendly.

Was pleased with this shot I took a few steps in from the main entrance. I had this PP in mind when I saw the scene. Perhaps a bit more detail on the floorboard in front of the post and a few nitpicking is in order. C&C welcomed.

Thanks David,

So much fun. I'd definitely want to go back when they finish the remodel. I'd never paid much attention to it before. Definitely a gem.

Yeah we we noticed the waiver didn't come out. I really doubt if we could have enjoyed it if there were other visitors, the time was perfect and we left when a couple with two kids came in.

The dining room after they took out the cordon. A bonus I really didn't think they would do considering the pieces in there.

I like your compositions! But those HDR images look like they need more saturation or contrast....

Yay a comment at last . I'll see what I can do. It does look flat. Two eyes or more will help me improve.

I'm a bit confused as to where the flaw in my workflow is. There is a color shift when opening an image from ACR to CS4 which shoudn't be but it's happening to me.

I'm not converting to sRGB for web output though, is there really a big difference?

Thanks for the comment.

Randy

that might be it! Most computers and websites are designed for the sRGB colourspace only. If you are shooting in Adobe 1998, the files need to be converted to the sRGB colour space for proper colour representation on the web. That might be the error in workflow.

Okay just made an action to convert profile to sRGB. I'd rather not post the same photos again. I still have a few more to go through

Thanks again Dave.

Nice! I never noticed it but I just realized they had matching wallpaper with the carpet on most of the rooms.

Too bad I missed some "inside" shots like blue room and a few on the first floor. Would love to go back again.

Well, it will be probably another year before I could organize a return visit. But that is certainly possible for next year after the restorations are done.

to lxdesign:

Enjoyed your photos. The HDR combination is just perfect and as was said, not too overdone. Thanks for sharing.

I was just browsing this forum and saw my name on here. I must have forgotten I registered for this event, and for that please accept my apologies.
