Ok, So a friend of mine from awhile back approached me and asked if I would shoot photos for her business, that she and a friend opened up. They are providing personal training and own thier own gym currently .. They are looking to get pictures done for flyers/website and portfolio. They are also looking to put together a video of different workouts that will be going to clients. approx 45 min of it ..

So I guess what I'm asking is if anyone has any suggestions or tips .. Would I be able to get away with lighting inside with just an sb800 and sb600? and say a d70 or d90... It's fairly low budget, so its not going to be HUGE money in it .. Would the Nikon D5000 be good for shooting the video? I have access to these cameras through my work so those bodies are no issue for me to get..

Any tips or pointers would be great!

Thanks

Tyler

As long as their expectation regarding overall quality is not high you will be able to do all that with equipment you have ...

I helped shoot a gym for friend. We used approx 6 studio strobes with modifiers to flood various parts of the gym. I guess it depends on how large the gym is and the kind of look you are after. If you're planning on doing small areas at a time like individual machines etc you can get away with your two speedlights but you "might" run into shadow issues. The nightmare scenario is if the gym has a lot of floor to ceiling mirrors along the walls etc. Lighting that stuff up without getting the lighting rigs and yourself into the shot while properly lighting it up is a headache and then you start to rely on your creative side to get it done.

Not to mention issues with reflections from the chrome machines with small/hard flash...it may be better with larger/soft light.
