I have been using the RRS L plate for my 5DMKII without a grip for a while and I really like the convenience. I have just added a grip and would like to get a L plate to use with the grip. What I am not sure is whether the L Plate at the bottom of the grip will make it un-comfortable to hold it in the vertical position? If you have used a grip with L plate, would please please comment if the L plate gets in the way of the vertical grip?
Thanks.

Thanks for the comment. I heard the same from other people and I tried the old L plate on the grip just to get a feel of how it is like with the plate on the grip and it actually fills the void between my palm and the flat bottom of the grip. Feels pretty good. I am going to order the grip for sure after I read this :

I am not going to paid $70 for the r-strap because I hear some horror stories about the hook breaking off at the weak pivot point. I am making my own r-strap which will cost me less than $18 and a lot more secure. I will share what my experience on how it will turn out.

I have an rrs L-plate attached to both my 1Ds3 & 1D3 90% of the time. It feels very natural and unobtrusive for my shooting needs.

is the idea of the L plate for the use of an R strap?
i just use manfrotto tripod mounts on all my cams, they have a nice D-attachment on the bottom

i made my own r strap too, used an old shoulder strap from a tote-bag..worked out pretty well

L plate is to provide easy mounting for both portrait and landscape mode. More info here : http://reallyrightstuff.com/QR/05.html
