I would say nowaday to produce an awesome images takes a lot of effort and of course resource.

The good old days when a barely sharp film images was awe-inspiring is over

This is a remarkable shot by a determined photographer. In one flickr group they are giving credit to strobist techniques. Here you are saying this is setting a new standard from the good old days. Being older I somewhat object this shot is not any better then shots that were captured in the 60s with high speed strobes triggered by sound or by infrared beams. Get yourself some old Natural Geographic magazines if you really want to see how little the state of the art of this type of photo has changed.

What this remarkable photo really shows is: no excuses with equipment just have a idea and go out and do it.

Now imagine it from the bat's perspective. I wonder if any bat returned to drink from his pond after being unexpectedly zapped by 3,500 volts of flash lighting. I'd probably inadvertantly release yesterday's dinner if that happened to me.

Not really. It's a myth. I believe that fruit bats see rather well, for example.
