Damn it, so I was on the island tonight taking some night shots and came home without my light meter. I think it may be on Olympic Island but I going tomorrow to check it again. Better to pay the $6.50 ferry ride then pay for a new one. BOOO URRNS!

But I'm also typing this in efforts that just in case I don't find it and one of you happen to be on the island soon and find it. It's a long shot, but if you find a Sekonic L-358 meter in a grey pouch then it's mine. To prove that it's mine but the ISOs are set to 400 & 160.

phew... found it! I went back yesterday afternoon and it was right where I thought it was. I was taking long exposures near the ferry dock and as I ran to catch the ferry it fell out of my bag.

You are so lucky. I have been loosing (sp?) stuffs left right and centre lately. The hotshoe level, a Nikon magnifying eyepiece adapted to canon... I even left my sling bag open one time and my 70-200 was hanging walf way out the bag for at least an hour before I noticed.

Nice shot. What is your L-358 telling you here that your camera light meter is not in terms of exposure? Can you share the details of the photograph such as exposure info and film verses digital? Thx.

Holy, that is a lot of EXIF data - is that a Flickr feature to be able to display that much data about a photo or did you have to do something to it?

Also, what did metering this photo with the L-358 tell you that the built in meter in the D300 did not?

that is standard flickr feature, go into your photo page and on your right you will see "taken with (your camera)" then press more options underneath it, something like that

Awesome - you learn something new everyday.
13inches, thanks - I incorrectly assumed it was March who replied to this and wondered if he had revealed something behind the scenes on Flickr.

Thanks again!

sorry I didn't reply sooner, I'm not on here frequently enough

The meta section should show any info you need but if you have any more questions feel free to ask. The photo was pretty much shot without a meter. I manually set the exposure and when I got a result I liked then I took a few frames.

I wasn't using the light meter for this shot but I was earlier and it was in a side pocket of my bag, hence it fell out when I jogged to the ferry.

Thanks for the reply. I was just trying to get a sense of when one might use the meter in a camera verses an external one. I know manual strobes would be one case but strobes obviously would have no impact on a landscape picture like yours. Again, nice shot!

Most internal light meters are really good and will usually do the trick. I'm shooting with one for a couple reasons.
1) I have a couple manual film cameras, so when I was shooting during the day I was using it.
2) In certain situations I'm forcing myself to shoot with it more because I'm trying to keep a film mentality when I shoot with my DSLR (and not fire off more shots that I need)

Thanks, glad you like the shot!
