Details:

What: Downtown Street Life
When: Wednesday September 9th, 2009
Time: 6:30PM
Where: Meet in front of the Eaton Centre - where the dude draws on the ground.
Bring: Camera, maybe a tripod for later, or not.

I am teaching a workshop on street photography, so in preparation, I need some new material for my class... so I thought I would go a little after work walk around the downtown core, and capture people and places in the style of "street photography" to get my creative juices flowing. I am planning to shoot digital for this one, as I was originally thinking of bringing the Mamiya, but in the interest of time, developement, and money, digital works better for me.

So we'll meet at 6:30pm right in front of the Eaton Centre - which is a hub of activity in the late hours of rush hour, and we'll wander around the downtown core, head up to Younge/Dundas square, and maybe even further north on Younge. End up somewhere for dinner maybe up by Bloor.

For those who have absolutely no idea where the Eaton Centre.... I say "what the.....", but hey, there might be someone. It is just west of the intersection of Queen Street W. & Younge Street on the north side of Queen.

I have a dance lesson at 6pm at Yonge and Bloor; I may try and join up with you guys afterward. If so, I'll give you a call, David. :)

Class all day until 5pm. Depends on if I want to carry my gear all day.. haha

I'd like to suggest meeting over at Yonge/Dundas Square under the big screen instead. It gets really busy over by the Eatons entrance.

Would love to join, but can't make it. I am so interested in street photography, but I must work that night. Would love to see another event like this show up on the events page again.

If I am not working until late that afternoon I will try to make it. I was wondering though, is the meet-up place near Dundas (that's where the challkmaster is, right) or near Queen, which I see mentioned at the bottom of the OP?

the meetup location is at Queen Street. I didn't really want to meet at Dundas Square - because its a bit of a zoo over there, but then again, so it the Queen Entrance, which might make it interesting given the large number of people going in and out of that area. Anyhow... looks like there is only 3 yeses currenty... hope to see more people! And yes, Sue give me a shout when your done.

I may be done at 7pm, or I may stick around for a second class and then finish at 8pm. I guess meeting you around 8pm would be around the time for a bite to eat??? ;)

If I can make it tomorrow, I'll be late. Will get downtown a bit past 7pm? I'll just give you guys a call to meet up. I like shooting in the dark anyway. =) Wow, did that just sound super creepy?

Any details on this street photography workshop of yours? Through which institution? Curious. Thanks

Yes... I the company I work for is called Workman Arts, and we offer courses in Theatre, Film, Dance, Playwriting, Photography, Fine Arts, and more. I am the instructor for the photography courses, and I am doing a street photography workshop, but unfortunately you have to be a member of Workman Arts to take the course.

Thanks to the guys that showed.... we were 6 in total, and had a good time. I think I got some good stuff. I might go out shooting next week again and do some more street photography.

It's nice to get some colour pictures again, after days of bland grey air show pics.

Thanks to Dave for organising, and to Chris for letting me try the ring light. Check out the red detail on the daily special menu:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ofermod/3906057026/" title="Menu lion by ofermod, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3483/3906057026_4a618f25bc.jpg" width="500" height="334" alt="Menu lion"></a>

And the set:

Dave had some great street photography!

Instructions:
1- Hang camera by strap off shoulder (D90 w/70-200-f/2.8)
2- make sure shutter release is toward hip
3- Allow shutter to hit hip. Continuous mode optional.

Got shots of the street, some foot and leg shots as well

... just waiting for them to be posted.
