For the beginner group, here are some basics I drew up that I would be ok covering. I really don't know what the level each user is at.

Using the Library Tab
Basic Navigation
Importing photos (synching)
Using keywords

Using the Develop Tab
Downloading presets
Using presets
Basic editing
Batch editing
Exporting and editing in to Photoshop

For those interested in presets, I can upload the ones I have on my computer so that people can download for use.

Hey all,

Just to update the location: we're going to be having this at Neil's condo. However there is a $50 non-refundable fee that he has to shell out for so we need to know if anyone is going to back out. (Would suck for Neil to be left on the hook for this, especially since he's offered to teach.)

We're going to book the venue tomorrow night so if you need to unregister, please do so by then. If not, we'll see you all next Wednesday night!

Cost is $5/person to cover the room rental fee, snacks and a token of appreciation for Jeremy and Neil who are presenting.

-Greg

Note: my condo is Queens Quay and Bathurst. There is limited parking in my building (free) and pay parking at the marina across the street (anywhere from $7-12 depending on what's going on). There's also limited street parking on Bathurst, south of Queens Quay (towards the airport).

For TTC goers, take 509 streetcar from Union to Dan Leckie Way (1st stop after the Spadina stop). That takes you right in front of my building.

Still thinking about this one. What topics would be covered in the advanced session?

maybe these may spare something:
batch processing, file organization, Print, creating your own preset

Hope it helps

sorry to be aloof. I started a new job this week and I've been swamped trying to catch up.

If you guys give me some ideas of what you want to know in the advanced session I can make sure to cover them off. there is a lot to go over but I'd like to focus on some topics people want to learn. I prefer to keep things interactive and do things together. Nothing better than learning by doing.

Some advanced topics would cover

File structures
keywording / metadata
advanced editing with brushes/ gradients
creating presets, editing exising presets
Organizing presets
shortcuts
advanced searching through your database
flagging and tagging
stacking
editing in photoshop options
Webpanel - exporting for your website (if anyone wants to see this part)

That list looks good Jeremy. I'd be particularly interested in the advanced editing with brushes/gradients along with presets.

Hey Guys,

We are confirmed for my condo. Here are the details.

Location
600 Queens Quay West (just east of Bathurst). The concierge will buzz you in.

Directions
- There is very limited parking in my building (no charge). Pull over in the round about and register with the concierge. Unit is PH16.
- Parking at the Marina across the road costs between $7-12 depending on other events that night.
- Parking south of Queens Quay on Bathurst is limited (street parking)
- By TTC, take the 509 streetcar from Union Station and get off at Dan Leckie Way. This is the first stop after Spadina. Takes you right in front of my building.

Details
- There are three small tables for use with four chairs at each table. Few lounger type seats as well.
- There's a fridge, stove, etc. so feel free to bring drinks/food. There's even a BBQ if people are so inclined.
- Pool table there too.

Neil

Is the room where the session is being held at your condo next to the lobby somewhere? Any special directions on how to get to said room?

Should be fun!

The room is just left of the concierge. He'll be able to point you in the right direction. It's just a few steps from the main lobby.

To the mod - I have one, possibly two friends coming for the beginner session who are not on TPMG.

I have some bad news. It looks like with the new job I'm not going to be able to make it on Wednesday. Right now I can't say anywhere close to 100% that I will be able to make it so it's only fair that I give notice and have to cancel. Sorry guys i won't be able to make it there in time. I really wish I could.

Advanced Users:
It looks like a bit of a hiccup has been had. I suggest that we still meet up and learn from each other in a more collaborative environment. I can cover a few of the topics that Jeremy was going to touch on, albeit not all of them. I can cover brushes, metadata, keywords.

So what I guess we'll do is have the advanced users do their session simultaneously with the beginner session. Then we can meet up together to tackle any other topics together.

Any objections? Other suggestions? Etc?

GL, I like your idea. I can do the beginner session and the advanced users can pow-wow more collaboratively.

I've already paid the $50 deposit on the room, so we might as well make use of it.

ya I'm cool with that, as there are bound to be things I miss thinking that I'm an advanced user

Learning collaboratively is the best way

I'm still planning on coming. In fact, downloading/installing Lightroom on my laptop right now (I normally use it on my desktop). See you folks there.

I really sucks that I'm going to miss the workshop today. I don't want to be one of those people that show up 30 minutes or more late.

I'll echo what FrankE said. Thanks to Greg and Neil. Also thanks to J__ for unofficially taking the reins of our advanced group :) I definitely had a chance to learn a few new things. It was great to meet some of the other folks as well.

Hey all,

Thanks to everyone who showed up, it was great to put some faces to names. Thanks to Neil for hosting this for us and to Justin for leading the advanced group (traffic was awful). Hope everyone got to learn something and for those that couldn't make it out we'll have another one in the fall hopefully.

If anyone knows anything about creating a web seminar, drop me a line as I'd be curious about exploring the possibility of doing something like that.

Thanks GL for putting up the event! We all learned a bunch including myself.

We are definitely looking into a "Working Session" next time where we will collaboratively bring images and techniques with Lightroom and we can see how things go

For any new comers or interested parties, this was an awesome session to meet people and "talk shop" :)

Great night everyone!
