For what purpose?
i.e. As a fashion backdrop or are you looking for gravestones/statues as subjects?

Cemetery of St James-the-Less on Parliament street, near Castle Frank Station.

Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery, on Erskine Avenue off Mount Pleasant Road. This one is huge with a lot of ornate gravestones. They have a 'children's section' (which is really heartbreaking).

St Michael's Cemetery, Southwest of Yonge & St. Clair. This one isn't visible from the road. You walk south on the right hand side of Yonge Street. A few blocks down you will see a little alleyway between two stores with some graves beyond it. This Alleyway actually hides a huge historic cemetary. It is not always open, though.

St John's Cemetery Norway - at the Corner of Kingston Road and Woodbine, near the beaches. Very Pictureseque.

The Necropolis is a beautiful place with many historic residents. George Brown and William Lyon Mackenzie are both buried there. Before you go you may want to contact them to obtain permission if you plan on doing a shoot.

I've wandered around there in the past with my camera and they were cool as long as the shots were not for commercial purposes. The grounds crew are OK but the property manager is a little more inquiring.

If you want to go off the beaten track, there's Bethel Cemetry at Concession 9 and Sideline 12, Pickering.

If you're thinking of getting a group of people together to "invade" a cemetery, beware that most cemeteries are private property and patrolled by security guards. I've been kicked out of Mount Pleasant a couple times for just having a DSLR around my neck, not even taking photos. Arguing with security was pointless so I just left.

I shoot in Mount Pleasant a few times a year and have only been stopped once by a grounds keeper who said I could shoot anything but the grave stones. I usually act stealthily when security is around by keeping my camera in a nondescript bag when I am not using it. A fellow photographer was once escorted off the property.

I have shot once in Mt Pleasant and no problems at all. There were actually a couple of shooters in there as well. I dont plan on doing a group shoot, just a solo one. Will just be "stealthy" about it.

There is an old Jewish cemetery on Jones south of the Danforth . It's closed to the public . Has anyone been inside ? I bet it's interesting .

Thank you all for the suggestions, I went to Necropolis and Mt.Hope today and got some shots. I have to say I was blown away when I walked into Mt.Hope today, that is a beautiful cemetary. Keep the suggestions coming if you have any others.

I was asked to leave Mt. Pleasant. Security explained that one needed a permit and that it was only extended to the flora and fauna. They felt photos of the monuments would upset the bereaved.

I get that, so I said "Oh, sorry" and left without much argument.

I did Mount Pleasant back in the winter with no problems.

For sure, I would keep it a low key affair and stay away from mourners (although I didn't see any when I was there). You don't want the be caught exploiting their time of sadness.

Their website definitely states that phtography is not allowed, and I believe it is their right to ask you to stop, so just leave and maybe come back some other time.

I definitely agree. I was primarily interested in shooting the really old interesting monuments, and stayed away from all people, kept the camera as un-obvious as possible when encountering others.

Being asked to leave is always something I accept gracefully. I recall the guard said "You're not permitted to take photos" and I said "Oh, I didn't realize. I'll leave the property immediately." I think that surprised him a bit.
