Here is sort of an overview of where we plan to head for the day. We can discuss in more detail ideas for Saturday over dinner.

So my plan is to be at:
1) Goderich Lighthouse for approx. 10:30am - 11:00am. - 2 lighthouses here
2) Point Clark Lighthouse for approx. 11:30am - 12:00noon
- quick Tim's stop for bathrooms, and grab and go lunch for those not bringing there lunch
3) Kincardin Lighthouse for approx. 1:00pm - 1:30pm
4) McNab Point Lighthouse for approx 2:00pm -2:30pm (north of Port Elgin / south of Southampton)
5) Chantry Island Lighthouse for approx 2:45pm - 3:00pm -- view from Southampton on the land from a park with a flag at the end of the road
6) Saugeen River Range Lights (Southampton) for approx 3:00pm - 4:00pm - 2 lights - bathroom and snack for those who wish to have one
7) Hotel Check In - 6:00pm / 6:30pm ish or so -- set up, quick rest
8) Big Tub Lighthouse in Tobermory for approx 7:00pm - 7:30pm -- depending upon time
9) Sunset set up 8:00pm - 8:45pm based on cloud conditions and weather of course. Sunsets at 8:46pm.
10) Dinner approx 9:00pm - 9:30pm -- inexpensive restaurant
11) Hotel for 9:40pm
12) Star Trails -- 11:00pm -- exposure time of approx 8 min due to full moon on Aug 4th -- might want to skip and get some sleep

Now these are approximate times of course. Give or take a half hour here or there. Other bathroom breaks etc will be built in as needed.

These weather forcasts change quite rapidly, maybe we'll get lucky.

Actually, if I could go I wouldn't mind a little overcast dramatic skies to bring out the green of the trees. Some interesting clouds would be a nice backdrop for the flowerpots, plus you don't have to worry about harsh shadows-blown highlights....maybe I'll head up the next weekend
Hopefully it will just be intermitten rain, IF it rains. Some of the best landscapes are taken just before/after it rains, in weather transitions. Have fun guys.

Fun weekend. A weekend trip like this should be done once or twice a year.

I got power back at my house at 5:30 this morning.

Great trip, thanks Maureen for organizing this trip. Chris & Sue, thanks for accommodating me at a short notice and Randy for letting us use your bigger room. John & Sue for driving me around Tobemoray.

How was the drive back? Did you cover all the planned spots? On the drive back I did stop at Inglis falls.

Looking forward to see every ones pics...

Ramesh

Thanks everyone for coming and making the trip a great success. It was great to see some of the new members as well as the usual members.

I had a wonderful time! Enjoyed everyone's company and all the planning was worth it. I will definately plan another over night trip sometime down thr road sometime.

Thanks to Susan for helping with the sunset and sunrise locations. Also for the abandoned houses too.

So for those who like to keep track of details. We travelled a total distance of 1368.5km from my door back to my door/place.

Also with further research looks like we managed to see 19 of the 20 lighthouses there were to see. As it looks like from my pictures that the lighthouse in the distance while on the boat to Flower Pot Island looks like it was from Cove Island and not Chantry Island. While from the lookout tower it showed Chantry Island Lighthouse in the distance.

So here is the list of Lighthouses, Lights and Range Lights we did see:

Goderich - 1) Goderich South Breakwater Light (larger one to south or left breakwater with the red door)
- 2) Goderich North Breakwater Light (smaller one to the north or right breakwater)
- 3) Goderich Range Light (beside the boats, inner one)
- 4) Goderich Lighthouse (on top of hill - sometimes refered to as Goderich Main Light)

Point Clark - 5) Point Clark Lighthouse (exterior, interior, & museum)

Kincardine - 6) Kincardine Lighthouse (bridge construction)

Southampton - 7) McNab Point Lighthouse (backyard of a house)
- 8 ) Chantry Island Lighthouse (seen from bay)
- 9) Front Saugeen River Range Light (on breakwater, some times referred to as the Southamton Front Range Light)
- 10) Rear Saugeen River Range Light (back across the road, sometimes referred to as the Southampton Rear Range Light)

Tobermory - 11) Big Tub Lighthouse (we shot at night, and did star trails)
- 12) Cove Island Lighthouse (seen off in a distance while on the boat to Flowerpot Island)
- 13) Flowepot Island Lighthouse (on Flowerpot Island)

Dyer's Bay - 14) Cabot Head Lighthouse (also the mill ruins site)

Lions Head - 15) Lions Head Lighthouse (also lions head rock formation that looked more like a mans face)

Stokes Bay - 16) Lyal Island Lighthouse (on metal skeleton frame on the right hand side)
- 17) Knife Island Lighthouse (lighthouse with range light on your left side)
- 18 ) Knife Island Lighthouse (round light on right side of the preserved lighthouse on, both were on the right)

Port Crocker - 19) Port Crocker Lighthouse ( on the Native reservation behind the fence)

We did not see Griffith Island Lighthouse which would have been on an Island after Port Crocker. It does say you need a boat to visit. Couldn't see the water to try and find it if possible.

Oh I almost forgot we can't forget "Gorilla Lighthouse" (on the dock on our way to Port Crocker)

Sunset Locations were off of Cape Hurd Rd. Second location we didn't get to was off of Dorcas Rd at Singing Sands.

Sunrise Locations were off of Little Cove Road for first one and second one was down Head St. to Water Street whcih changed name at the curve and all the way to the end.

Some great photos so far, keep them coming. I however with others will likely be sometime before I get them processed.

I had to do a quick blog to load my pictures here. I had one before but lost the account to inactive status.

This goes to you Maureen for organizing the event, driving us around, waking us up. Your stamina and patience is inspiring.

I am waiting to see everyone's moon light shot of Big Tub light house. Most of mine looks like taken in day light or with lot of noise. Got one that looks close to a night shot, but hard to see the stars though...

Randy,

Have you taken the 17-40 (or had someone on CPS do it) to Canon for a repair bill?

Thanks Sue70 (very specific to you lol).

Not yet Chris. It's a cosmetic problem, but I need to bring it soon to get a replacement for the rim cap that covers the lens with the barrel itself. Canon service is just a block away from where I work  .

I think it blew off when I was with Maureen on the top deck with the weather and all coming back from the island.

I must say I'm impressed with the lens to take a beating like that or it may just have been a lucky fall. Note to self, never leave your tripod alone on long expsoures if the ground is not flat.

Randy
